Batty Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) I have never thought of my gear as high end, however I, as most members have had some great gear and as it got older moved it on or forgotten all about it only to remember and thought OMG, that was a great piece of gear, I wonder what happened to it. So, the crux, what have you moved on with regret OR still have hidden away somewhere. It may be that 1st release DL103 from the 60s or a nice DAC with the famous TDAnnnn shhhh don't tell Me, not much really, a Mission Cyrus II with PSX, a pair of Heybrook HB2r speakers. Goodmans monitors who's name escapes me. The Castle Howard S1 sat next to the TV providing lovely sound. You get the idea, go on fill your boots and share with us all. Oops forgot the Koss Pro 4AAA Headphones from the 80s that weighed a ton but sound to die for. Edited April 2 by Batty
FR DRew Posted April 3 Posted April 3 My "Holographic Imaging" Acoustic Research M1 speakers. A harsh top end, but otherwise stunning sounding small sealed standmount from the early 90's. Now that I have a large class A amplifier I'd love to be able to see what they were truly capable of. 1
BRS Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Marantz PM50, Jamo 507s and sony CD (can't remember the model). Wish I still had the PM50.
grammefriday Posted April 3 Posted April 3 My first serious HiFi purchase - a NAD 7020 Stereo Receiver from the early 80's
simo8989 Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Audible Illusions Modulus 3A with the Phono stage that I purchased secondhand from Uncle Joe in the early nineties, I wish I still had the pre-amp just for the phono stage as it had the famous John Curl gold phono stage built in.
Ars Paart Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I had a Sherwood-Newcastle CD player that I quite liked, I wish I'd kept it even though I've ripped all my CDs to flac and have them on a media player.
PleasantSounds Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I had a Technics SLQ2 turntable which at some point I had to move, along with my vinyl collection. Still miss it, even though I don't have any issues with digital. OTOH I can't believe it's been 12 years since I bought Lynx Hilo converter. It still is the heart of my system serving as a digital preamp and I can't imagine replacing it with anything else. 1

statman Posted April 3 Posted April 3 All the high end reel to reel tape decks i had, especially the technics r1500 . Kept the good record decks , Micro-Seiki and Luxman, thankfully.
mfforever Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Was in Year 10 at school and saved enough money working casually at Franklins to buy my first music system ......a Kreisler 3 in 1 ...... had a Garrard TT, tape deck and radio. At the time it blew me away as by end of the 60s there was so much amazing vinyl to play ( remember those once a month latest vinyl memberships ...... can't remember the company ) ...... My 30 year old nephew still has those speakers from it and he reckons " they're great " Anyway , back to the present .... used to hoard vintage speakers but now with the Yamaha 5000 my speaker seeking days are over ..... had quite a few beautiful vintage amps which mostly I have now sold but I still have a small collection of 20 year old plus amps that I can't part with ....... Musical Fidelity A3.2 cr power amp, Rotel RX-1052 Stereo receiver, Rotel RA 10 which had a very nice phono stage and my never- to -be- parted - with Musical Fidelity TriVista 300 in my main system ...and all serviced and capped by the most likeable and knowledgable but now retired Chris Kimil . ( and funny you mentioned it Batty that you had some Goodmans speakers as I have almost completed my rebuild of my 1965 Goodmans Magnum K speakers ....... early listening suggests that they are going to be quite something ...... and only taken me 15 months ( OK, I'm slow at lots of things but I eventually get there, especially with the inspirational help of the Stereonet Community ....... thanks guys with the help on the cross overs)
mfforever Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Wow ...... I also had the original MF A1 .... 20 W of Class A delicacy ..... and to this day I don't think I've heard female voices produced as well by any other amp ....... but it's reputation as a toaster was well deserved so I had to let it go after two repairs ....... went on to have a lot of MF amps that I think were / are amazing. 1
Batty Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 I replaced the heatsink paste on mine, no probs at all, just a bit messy. 1

surprisetech Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Overall, my purchases have been genuine upgrades or like-replacements for gear that was outdated, lacked newer features or died, so not many regrets. Sort of regret moving on a Rotel RA-870BX Integrated Amp and a Marantz CD-50 (TDA1541AS) which were the heart of the main system for a while. I don't regret the purchases that replaced them, but later when setting up a serious 2nd system it would have been nice to have had them on hand. Another interesting one would be the Sanyo VHR-5700 Hi-Fi VCR. It had very effective independent video & audio tracking adjustments that could be used to get the best quality playback from a tape no matter what machine it had been recorded on. When it developed a fault, I replaced it rather than getting it repaired. Regretted that years later when I transferred the home movies and TV recordings (rage, studio 22, etc.) to the PC. The Panasonic still did a good job, but there are video &/or audio artifacts on some of the transfers that could have been corrected with the Sanyo machine. My 1982 Technics SL-D303 Turntable and 1984 Yamaha HP-1 Orthodynamic Headphones are still part of my main system because I know I would regret moving either of them on!
Kirby66 Posted April 21 Posted April 21 Wish I'd held on to ... ME Pre / Power combo from the late '80s & Marantz CD65 (just for the TDA ) / JBL LX44's Have held on to ... Original Richter Wizards / Musical Fidelity A2 / Musical Fidelity Elektra E61 CDP

Bisguittin Posted April 26 Posted April 26 (edited) Many years ago I used to have a pair of Carver cubes, Steve. (M400t's). I loved those things. I also owned a chrome Metaxas Charisma preamp with a bright blue fascia which was sadly stolen along with most of my audio system in the mid 90's. I've managed to retain a Nytech CA252 though.
