  1. Any one out there considering a high quality, very powerful yet highly detailed integrated should grab this right now ...... and that it has been recapped by Len Wallis makes this a ridiculous bargain to boot. But beware ........ once you check into Hotel MF, it quite impossible to leave.
  2. Agree ..... have heard this model and for the money here, it would be REALLY hard to better this ....... very smooth and built like a tank. GLWTS
  3. Thank you kelossos for your supportive information ....... am happy to say these are now going to a better home .
  4. Further information: Bought these sight unseen as a future project but now realised that it's a bit beyond me. Pair of JBL L5, made USA, very heavy. They have very good reviews as is the reason I bought them originally. I have hooked them up and they sound very good to me. Please see condition report as accurately as I can say.... ( and I repeat the cabinets are in very poor condition ) - all drivers seem to sound as they should - the bottom bass driver on both speakers have the rubber surround coming off the cone ( can see in photos ) - the CABINETS are in VERY POOR condition. Both scratched BUT one speaker has water swelling in the bottom 7cm. Am going to part out the drivers and crossovers ( the crossovers are supposed to be pretty good ) but would rather give some Stereonet DIY members a think about it first as whole speakers. Selling for less than I paid. Will only consider pickup as they are around 28kgs each....... very solid on the knuckle test. PS : would consider a direct swap for a pair of decent speaker binding posts. 5. Hey Cougar ...... are these ACTIVE speakers? .......... if they are these, they have some great reviews ...... no need for expensive amp or interconnects......... just add a quality streamer like Auralic from these classifieds and a DAC with volume control and you have a very high quality system. GLWTS
  6. Have not found out any additional information BUT .......... I did hook them up and they sound fantastic ......... brought a big smile to my face ...... big 70's style sound ......... good clear powerful bass but I was a bit surprised by the delicacy of the high end, as I thought it would be dominated by the bass. You might see this in the DIY speaker rebuild section in the near future ...... at least will - brace cabinets significantly and line with wool felt - rewire all internal hook up wire and add proper speaker binding posts - measure crossover components to see if all still good - clean up / refresh the finish on the nice bookended teak veneer - reinforce backing of baffle where drivers attached ( and add a gasket to mid and tweeter as I think they are just screwed directly into chipboard baffle ) - attach a separate enclosure for the Phillips mid driver.( thank you afa for the photos and dimensions ) I think I will have lots of fun with not much outlay ....... just plenty of enthusiasm.
  7. Have a 5 year old iPad that I use with this exact model Auralic and have never had a single problem......the Lightening DS interface is probably the best available for streaming in terms of reliability and ease of use ( plus the quality of the sound is fantastic )
  8. Ahhhh, those were the days ....... I remember my incredible excitement when I purchased my first music system in 1969 ...... it was a Kriesler 3-in-1 (TT, radio and cassette tape and some boxy speakers ......)can't exactly remember the price but think it was around $200 ........ had that system for more than 10 years and it bashed out Yes, King Crimson, Emerson/Lake and Palmer, Amon Duul , Stones, Zeppelin, CSN&y etc. ...... probably all without any finesse but fantastic just the same.
  9. Thanks Rob for the update information and the kind words ........ it really is a great pre....... and that upgrade would take it to a whole new level .
  10. I am the second owner. It is in excellent condition with less than 30 hours on it........ presents like new. Has REMOTE and power. I gave away the idea of a second system running off my home theatre system as I never used it. Bought from original owner who got it made up by Chris Daly in NZ as a special order with 3 RCA inputs and 2 switchable RCA outputs so he could feed actives and a headphone amp. I had it running an old Musical Fidelity A3CR and it sounded terrific Postage included ......... I will double box it so it can be safely posted if needed. 11. Hey Tweaky ........ what did they do with that monster ? In a Console or speakers ?
  12. Thank you for all the detective work ..... has narrowed down the possibilities ( will also contact Multi Sonics in Melbourne ....) thanks for the lead. A few interesting details -the Kriesler big 15 inch aluminium cast basket on the woofer seems to have been only made in Australia ....... the US Magnavox 15 inch has a pressed metal frame. - Looking at dozens of Kriesler ( and HMV etc ) speakers on the net, I cannot find a single one that has the 15 inch driver ( although it is still very possible ) _ the CN-3 3 way cross over was very often used in Stereophonic Consules ( those big cabinet things with a record player and radio. )...... so basically an Open Baffle design really. I think it is quite possible that the speakers have been assembled using the huge 15 inch Australian made Magnavox woofers from an Australian made Kriesler stereophonic Console. Have been checking out this theory but have so far found Consules with only the 12 inch Woofers, but there are not too many to look at on the net so it is a small sample. Will get back to it soon.
  13. Thanks for the advice .... will check it out ......... but will keep looking..... as Moulder said " The answer is out there "
  14. Saved some vintage speakers ( probably 70's looking at dimensions and drivers ) . Think they are probably Australian made...... either small scale commercial or DIY ? It has a lovely acrylic badge on the traditional woven grills that says " Lucas " in a rather spacey script. -Teak bookmarked veneer over fine chipboard. About 88cm H. 60 cm w. and 25cm deep. Cabinets lined with thick glass wool ceiling batt stuff - 3 way design - Kriesler 15'' woofer, cast aluminium basket " made in Australia " by Magnavox - unbranded mid - Realistic Japan tweeter -Weird Crossover box Any clues out there ? Are any of the drivers of some quality ? Am really curious to know before I test them or anything.
