Melbourne's Best Kebabs

Featured Replies

Inspired by this review video we ate at Hanna's Kebabs in Melbourne's Coburg during a recent trip. Wow, very impressive, experience exactly like the reviewer.

Kebabs@hoppers the best I’ve had, worth the drive.

If you're in NE Adelaide the best Yiros (what's a kebab?) are at the St Agnes shopping centre.

What is it about Coburg and Kebabs? When I was in my late teens and of driving age - there wasn't a weekend that we woudln't end up at Haci's Kebabs just further down the road from there - usually around 1-2am in the morning. It was an institution, and for many, many years before my group discovered it. It carried on for at least another few generations of P-platers until the site (I think it was a window tinting place) was eventually turned into high-rise apartments.

I don't wish to upset the Greeks and Middle Easterners on SNA, but I have to admit I don't know the difference between Souvlaki and Kebabs. A Greek guy I worked with got terribly annoyed when I told him of a great Souvlaki place and brought him to a Kebab restaurant. To me it is roasted meat in flatbread with veggies and sauce! If someone can enlighten me what the difference is it would be great.

I have had Souvlaki in Greece and it is very different to what we have here. A lot more meat, a lot more dried herbs, a lot less veggies. There is a fantastic Souvlaki restaurant up the road from me called "Souv and Burgers" on Toorak Rd in Camberwell, just before Warrigal Rd. They roast their meat over charcoal, and you get that delicious smoky flavour. Make sure you order "double meat", if you do that, it's closer to the Souvlaki in Greece than the typical Aussie souvlaki with too much vegetables.
