The third album by Brian O Headhra & Fiona MacKenzie. The word Cairdeas means kinship/friendship in Scottish and Irish Gaelic, as stated on the back cover.

This album was recorded in 2020 and 2021 during Covid lockdown. In keeping with the meaning of the album title, quite a number of friends and family members contribute to this album. It is another fine recording from this duo, mostly sung in Gaelic, with a couple of songs in English, and a bit of a mix between the two in some places. There are some very good vocal harmonies, with fine contributions from the various friends and family members. All three of their albums are good, but this is quite possibly their best so far, in my opinion.

Their niece and nephew contribute to the lead vocals on this song.

A new release, recorded live during Shakti's 50th anniversary tour in 2023.

This recording is dedicated to the memory of Zakir Hussain who sadly passed away in December 2024.

There are notes on the inside cover from John Mclaughlin and the other band members each expressing their feelings.

My copy arrived this morning and I have just had a listen. This is easily as good as, if not better than, anything that Shakti have recorded before, and certainly stands as a very fine tribute to Zakir Hussain.

In John Mclaughlin's notes he states that the group Shakti which he founded together with Zakir Hussain in 1973 has ended, but also expresses his hopes that other 'Shakti' kinds of groups will follow. The two of them had a very close friendship over 50+ years and he refers to Zakir Hussain as his Indian brother.

I had the good fortune to see Zakir Hussain at Womadelaide some years ago, he was a class act!
