Hi I would like some opinion around mc10 supreme cart.

I am replacing my 30 year old ortofon mc20 mk2, and would like to see if someone has any idea or experience with the two and if they are at least of a similar sound...

Thanks

mark

Owned one of these and ran on my rega p25 for close on ten years. Lovely cart, good example of going for decent mc without going nuts

I assume since this mc10 supreme is built fairly recently in 2009 , that compared to my 70s mc20 mk2 it would be around similar kind of level of detail, etc? or perhaps even better?

Sorry , can't compare but am happy with my  mc10 supreme from Speakerbits at a very good price.

I am replacing my 30 year old ortofon mc20 mk2,

So you change your carts often I see... :D  Wow - 30 years for a cart; that must be some sort of record.

Congratulations.

I have a few carts that I play around with, so far mc20 mk2 was my favorite out of the carts I have, unfortunately it got broken. I bought it from an original owner, and I have used it for many hours. So I am looking for something similar to that sound.

Now I am even contemplating something totally different too, sumiko blue point evo , denon dl103 ...

So I am really puzzled what I should get.

Ahhh - I see. I thought you bought it and played it for 30 years. I was well impressed. Nevertheless it sounds like you have got your money's worth out of it.

Well a change is as good as a rest. Let us know what you decide upon. We are spolit for choice for sure.

Cheers

I too am very happy with my recently purchased MC 10 Supreme from Speakerbits. Running it on a Micro Seiki tonearm fitted to my Ariston RD11s TT and NAD P2ii pre amp.

A genuine step up from my previous cartridge - Grado Prestige Gold which I was also happy with. This is my first experience with a MC cartridge and am pleased with the result.

Do you have to use a step up with the mc10?

You could get it retipped

Soundsmith in New York have retipped a DL103 for me, I paid $250 plus post. but there is around a 10 to 12 week wait as he is very busy (probably due to low cost). But there are other retippers out there, but I cannot comment as I haven't experienced their work.

Well worth the money.  Valued at much more.  Fine performer.  I went to that from a Super MC15 II.  Tip not as fine as the MC15 II but the cart 'generator' is better.  I Would like to go to a Supreme MC30 or something to get a finer tip too but the $$$ jump over what I paid for the Supreme MC10 is too far for me.

Do you have to use a step up with the mc10?

I think he meant it was an upgrade.  The Supreme series has plenty of output for an MC.  Speakerbits ad's have all the details.

Not sure that would be viable with a cart that age - suspension would have dried out, so might be a major rebuild for something of dubious quality in the end compared to replacing with a new one.

Just my POV if I was in your position :)

As far as I'm aware it requires a step up amplifier. I haven't tried it without one but am sure it would be too low output for a MM cartridge input.

the mc10 supreme sold by speaker bits here on ebay there is the exact same unit I ran on my p25

of course you will need to run a moving coil phono stage as moving coils have quite low level output.

for a cart selling for $157 new I wouldn't have thought worth it. especially since its being sold brand new :)

Good, as I would like to leverage my existing t20 step up if possible. and then into lehmann black cube.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks a fair price

I'd but this over a denon 103 any time

Thanks what I was thinking but I have never heard the dl103R so not sure what the outcome of comparing the two would be?

I think it is a fantastic price.

Hi Mark,

For the price that Speakerbits is selling these you won't find a better MC.  I have this as a backup cartridge to my Ortofon MC70 and can honestly say I've enjoyed it when I have it on once in a while.

I put this cartridge at my parent's system and it really sings on the a Wilson Benesch Circle turntable.

I can also confirm that Ortofon advised that these cartridges are not NOS but have been made using the last of their spare parts so once they are gone they will no longer be made.

Cheers

Cart arrived today, I have been listening to it for an hour or so now. This is a good cart that produces good soundstage, smooth highs, perhaps in my system it produces somewhat more bass than the mc20mk2. (And more bass than I am used too, perhaps in my system slightly boomy but this is more related with my big 12" bass drivers in a tiny apartment). Overall I am enjoying the sound very much and certainly for the money I have paid, this is amazing. I am sure things will change over the next days as the suspension settles.

Cheers guys.
