Hey People,

We do from time to time have tried some budget meals/food and have enjoyed immensely.

I wanted to know what you're experiences have been.

Please do not state any of the major food chains as we all know you like a good macca's burger!

I'am keen to know about those secret and some not so secret hangouts that you visit every so often for a good bite :)

I will start with mine, A Mixed Grill from From Footscray Kebab, well its $20.00 but feeds two and does very well!

I have been to "Lentil As Anything" quite a few times and I would thoroughly recommend it. It is a vegetarian place and the one I go to is based at the Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne. You only pay what you think the meal is worth and it is strictly an honour system so you just put the money in a collection box on the way out. A novel idea admittedly but I have always enjoyed the meals there even though I am not a vegetarian. I normally put 10 to 15 bucks in the box.

They also operate in St Kilda and Footscray (also in Melbourne)

Four big bowls for around 15 bucks!

Wagyu beef slider at The Black Toro in Glen Waverley. $7.00 for one....

Hmm, any in the west, looking to try you're hide-outs this weekend.

Right down towards the end/start of Botany Rd, go under Southern Cross drive, past the IGA on the right and it's on the left 100M after that. (next to a Thai restaurant). Get take-away as their service/plates are pretty ordinary and keep on driving down Botany Rd, then hang a right at the Subway and go to to the Sir Joseph Banks Park and sit there on the picnic tables and eat it. Magic.

Capanno's is a good Italian Restaurant near IGA also. Really friendly people in there and great food.

Old thread, new thought:

Banh mi from To's Bakery in Footscray. BBQ chicken or pork, either is great. And only $4! I have eaten plenty while working out that way in the last 2 years.

Daci & Daci bakery in Hobart. Visited on my holidays in January. Best bakery ever full stop....................s.

What are their pies like?

There is a separate thread for meat pies.

Didn't have a meat pie but their sugary stuff is the best I have ever had.

The best Laksa that I have tasted in Oz comes from the Dickson Asian Noodle House in Canberra. Absolutely, positively the best!

Our local pie shop at Clempton Park makes the best Vanilla Slices and Sausage Rolls I've ever had.

Mr Burger. They've got a permanent shop on Chapel St and various food vans that get about. $10 basic or veggie burger ($11 for their bacon burger)
