I wonder who will play to lose in the Belgium vs England match. Winner most likely end up in the Spain, France, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, and Colombia bracket.

For the last 16, it will be 2 Teams from Group A vs B, C vs D, E vs F and G vs H.

Japan has a very good chance in Group H, they need at least a draw against Poland who is already out,  whereas Senegal will be facing Colombia who will go all out for a win or they will be out too!  Whoever wins, they will face either England or Belgium and it’s gonna be tough too ;D

With 2 matches played in each group, here is a rather comprehensive analysis of which teams will qualify for the Round of 16. Will be helpful to have the group tables in front of you in order to follow exactly what was written.

Quite “cheem”, so please dun read after a 2am match unless planning to get MC for headache ;D.

IMO groups of interest are D, E, F & H.

Group D:

Argentina must beat Nigeria and hope that Iceland draw/lose to Croatia who already qualified and likely to rest players.

Messi will need to ask his Barca pal, Rakitic, to do him a favour but Modric might hv other ideas :P. Judging from their perf against Croatia, Argentina will need to improve vastly to stand a chance against Nigeria who will qualify if they win (a draw will also suffice if Iceland do not beat Croatia by 2 or more goals).

Group E:

Brazil needs only 1 pt against Serbia to qualify while the latter will need a win to guarantee a spot though a draw might be good enough if the Swiss lose by a 1-goal margin.

Should both Brazil and Switzerland lose, it will go down to GD, GS, disciplinary record then drawing of lots to determine who will join Serbia in qualifying.

Group F:

The group with the most permutations so will leave it to you to read & digest the analysis in the article. Read this section if serious about getting MC ;).

Even S Korea has a chance to move on should they beat the Germans and Sweden lose to Mexico.

Group H:

3 teams still in contention for qualification. A win by either Japan, Senegal or Columbia will guarantee qualification so fate is in their own hands.

More interesting match will be between Columbia and Senegal as both will want to win to seal a spot in the next round though a draw will still see the teams moving on should Japan lose to Poland.

Japan need 1 point to qualify (highly possible given how the Polish have been playing) and can still go through with a defeat should the Columbians lose to Senegal (a match that can go either way IMO).

Senegal qualifies as long as they match Japan’s results (be it win, draw or lose).
