I dont particularly want to pay delivery but just wondering about the 46" in box would it fit in the back seat of a regular commodore sedan. I do have access to a Toyota Landcruiser alternatively which I am thinking I may need?

The 46X box is approx 90H x 140W x 38D cm. You'll probably need some help carrying it to and from the vehicle - it's pretty heavy. And FWIW, I'd suggest you play it safe and keep the box upright.

how does the Samsung 32" LCD TV LA32R81BDX compare ?

One difference that comes to mind:

The Samsung LA32R81BDX has an 8-bit panel (as does pretty much all their current range, I think).

8-bit panels can produce 256 levels of brightness per channel, or 16,777,216 discrete colours.

Most of the Sony Bravia range have 10-bit panels.

10-bit panels can produce 1,024 levels of brightness per channel, or 1,073,741,824 discrete colours.

So 10-bit = better colour reproduction and no gradient banding.

Update on my bravia - I returned my second 46x last night.

Sony were great to deal with.

The TV looked 110% with free to air, and 110% with all play station games except GTA 4. However before it left I discovered "games mode" (argh) which made a huge difference. Later, having set up my PS3 with a crt I now see GTA4 looks just as bad.

Motion was ok with dvd ... some noticable artifacts but in line with what I expected and easily 9/10. The new samsum A650 is said to have caught up with motion flow but is no better.

So in the end my only probs then were dark corners on some images every so often (nobody else notices but it drives me mad and seems to be on all large panels) and the slow channel changing/no epg problem.

I miss the TV now ... except for the dark corners it exceeded my expectations in all material respects.

So turn on game mode makes PS3 games look better ?

Only tried it on gta 4 but yes - better motion imo - apparently due to less processing so less lag - and unlike many other tvs you can adjust a few things like brightness and colour in game mode.

Great tv.

What configuration are you guys using on your Bravia with GTA4?

I found I had to up the brightness a fair bit compared to other games.

I've got a problem and I need help. Might warrant its own thread, it might not.

Anyway, I've just purchased a new Sony Bravia 40" X 3100. It's great, picture quality is awesome. I've got a Sony Home Theatre system on order too, so I'm sure I'll ask more questions when it comes to the best way to configure the two together, but right now I've got a more crucial problem.

I love Guitar Hero, and I play it on my PS2 constantly. It's worked fine on my old analogue CRT, but when I try to play it on the Bravia, I get a fairly large lag between the audio and the visual that makes this unplayable.

The PS2 has composite out, and I'm plugging it into the side-ports of the Bravia. It's the Video 2 input channel. It's also a 4:3 aspect ratio

I figure the Bravia is doing some kind of post-processing to the image before displaying it, and this is taking 50-60 ms. Might not sound like much, but it's critical to many computer games, and the guy in the shop swore that the Bravia has the best AV response of all.

I've tried fiddling with the basic settings, disabling the wide-zoom, just putting the 4:3 image up in the centre, but it's still happening. Is there any advanced setting I can do to fix this problem? Is there any other workaround available? Anything that can convert from Composite to something that the Bravia won't cause a delay for?

This is really crucial. If I can't get Guitar Hero working properly, I'm taking it back. Any advice will be gladly appreciated.

Go into settings and put the bravia into "game/text" mode ... Id be interested to see how you go with it.

Is there a lag with any other game? If not you'd think it's specific to Guitar Hero and maybe not the Bravia's settings.

I had a similar problem but with PS3 Rock Band. I thought my timing was way out of whack until I realised there was a lag and it's only for this game. There's a setting for the audio/visual lag which sorted out the problem. Is there an equivalent setting on GH?

Yeah, all PS2 games have this problem. It's nothing to do with guitar hero specifically. I can even notice the lag in the PS2 OS menu.

And to Mantronic, I've tried Game/Text mode to no avail. Still has the same problem.

Have you tried going to the Guitar Hero Options then and calibrating the lag as a workaround to compensate?

Won't help the other games but at least it will get you going for Guitar Hero.

Hi Guys, new to these forums, although i need to share my experiance with my Sony KDL4600 X. I purchased this last Oct and up untill March of this year it didn't miss a beat. Currently have a rather large paper weight hanging on my wall. I have had 3 service guys come out and replace the Digital tuner board ( since it was diagnosed at faulty) and the HDMI board - not even a day after the Tech had left ( which i must say was useless) whilst watching some late night show, the TV switched off.... black screen, I tried swithing it back on, the green light comes on but no picture or sound or control settings. I unplugged the main power cord for 15 mins re tried switching it on ... now nothing... green light comes on but thats about it. Has anybody else experienced this.... Im in the process of haveing this replaced.. which is proving to be alengthy process. Any help would be appreciated

thanks <_<

Hey Jackal, I own a 40"X which had the tuner die after only 2 months of service.

When the problem first occured the screen went black and the stand-by light was flashing 10 times.

I could turn it back on and see the back light illuminate but that was it.

I was pleasently suprised at the service I recived from sony, promblem was fixed within 24 Hours of calling the warranty number.

I've got a permanent greenish blob developing along the top of my 60 sxrd, most noticeable with a white background. I thought it might have been the lamp so I replaced that but all it did was brighten up the blob so obviously another issue. Does anyone know if there's an easy fix for this or should I contact warranty support?

Thanks.

I also have a PS2 connected to video1 and Game/text mode improves the quality slightly-so it's on for that input all the time on my 40" D3100.

Hi All

Not sure where I should be posting this and I am unable to post a new topic so I thought I would post here and in the X series calibration thread.

I have had my 46X3100 for around a week now. I have a ps3 connected via HDMI. Now I have noticed when playing blu-ray movies, whenever there is movement, mainly when somebody is turning their head then there is a slight blur / ghosting. I have no idea what is causing this, could it be because I haven't calibrated the screen or should I be worried that I have a dud tv? It was really really bad when I was watching Saw 4 on blu-ray, in fact all the Saw blu-ray movies were the same but not as bad as 4 I have been using the factory vivid settings. I haven't noticed any issues playing any ps3 games and I haven't tried any dvd's yet. I have noticed though HD tv isn't as clear as it was using a HD Set top box with my Sony 40V300A.

I don't think it is a problem with my ps3 as there were no problems when it was connected to my 40V300A. I was going to try using some of the custom calibration settings so see if it would make a difference.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

No easy fix has been identified. If the light engine is not replaced, the effect may eventually correct itself (as occurred with the discolouration issue my set had).

Thanks for the reply, I might sit and wait to see if it gets worse, a long way to go on my warranty so not short on time.
