buzztiger Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I searched the forum here for banana plugs. But most threads are quite old. I have been thinking of getting banana plugs for my speaker cables on the ends that connect to the receiver end. Last week was at sim lim tower looking at banana plugs. They have just too many to choose from. I don't know whether to get solder type ( I can solder myself) vs screw type. Which do u think is better ? Has anyone used these type from the SLT Metal ones can short circuit if both the plugs get connected accidentally by stray wire or metal right ? So Plastic ones should be better right ?
wizardofoz Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Metal ones you can heatshrink to insulate them Screw ones I find better than solder, but it's the banana contact that you should be focusing on not the plastic or metal housing.
Boxerfan88 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Bought them cheap from aliexpress. They also have the nicer looking "nakamichi" branded ones. Long wait of 2-3 weeks though... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
synthesis1624705793 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Get this type. Inside has two screws for securing the wire. You can remove the plastic and use heat shrink like this to look neat.
rayleh Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I am using the 2 screws type. Nakamichi brand, bought from Sim Lim Square.

So far never saw this type of banana plug with screws hidden while walking around in SLT (Just too many stores at SLT) . All I saw was those with single screw exposed. Do u guys buy ur banana plugs from Davjones in basement of SLT ? I saw an old post in 2007 that LHS sells banana plugs. Anyone got picture of how it looks like ?
buzztiger Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 I am using the 2 screws type. Nakamichi brand, bought from Sim Lim Square. Does the nakamichi banana plug look like this ? I did not see nakamichi brand banana plugs in SLT. Mostly have these type (below) at $5 a pair .
buzztiger Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 So I was at wrong building looking for nakamichi banana plugs. Haha. Do u remember how much it costs and which store in sim lim square ?
rayleh Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Can't remember the shop and price. They don't cost much. Think around 6 bucks each.
whitesox Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Bro.. I ever bot $5/each banana plug from SinLim long time ago but end up I threw it away bcoz it became corrode. I wanted to use QED banana plug but I have no tools to clamp it then I used Milty CC120 Gold Banana Plugs. NO more corrode for years. Good quality though... http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/390883423955_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT It goes to my AVR for convenient sake. The other end of my QED cable soldered with WBT 4% Silver Solder Wire http://www.ebay.com/itm/331025443592?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT But now... ;D I soldered both end with silver solder wire... coz I believe direct contact will always be better and also easier to insert rather than exposed/bare wires.. :)
