What to do in Adelaide?

Time to fire this thread back up again:

It's been enjoyable revisiting this thread four years on, so much has changed for me and the family and I guess every one who's left a comment.

We're booked into the Adelaide Hilton this time for 6 or so days as Glenelg bookings were both dearer and also they wanted a longer stay from us. For four of us it was nearing 4K for the 6 days(top price...lower prices we had to stay longer) or so leading up to Xmas and when we shoot through(23rd-29th).

Learnt a little bit since four(near 5) years ago and new speakers are nearly set in motion as I type but I'd still like to sneak a couple of hours in to listen to anything available in Adelaide. Apart from Legend and VAF, who's still going in the HiFi retail sector?

Would be great to catch up to anyone who's got a free moment at this extremely hectic time of the year but with my familial obligations and yours it may well be a bridge to far but if there's a chance for a quick beer and a steak at a pub or club do let me know. I'm guessing the Hilton is reasonably central.

  • I just said sex out loud six times and all I heard back was "I've got a headache", "go away", "are you for real", "too tired", "we've just got over Xmas" and "eat your dinner" AND that was me answe

  • G'day L, You'd be most welcome to come up for a geezer at a pair of Wyndhams CH1s plus a half decent espresso (if I do say so myself!). Or wine, beer, smoky single malt......

  • Hills hifi crawl? Maybe an hour or so here and then off to the tin shed!

Yeah, the silly season can be a bit hectic. Hopefully, you'll get time to venture up to the cooler climes of the Hills sometime during your stay, maybe during the post Xmas day lull.  I'm only 10 minutes from Bear so we should be able to do a twoferone offer. :)

Keep us updated with your plans and we'll see what we can sort out.

When's the announcement on the new speakers?

Sounds great guys. I'll inform the Handbrake now and see how I go for a post Chrissy date. Not sure if we're hiring a car or borrowing a car. 27th seems the only possible day for travelling apparently.

Tony; I'm trying to match Earle's Topaz to a speaker within my wafer thin budget and I've had mixed results with auditions(or not) from general Hifi shops, I resemble and behave like the archetypal tyrekicker apparently and suffer as a result. May know more by the time I hit Rundle Mall though. Not liking black finished speakers can present difficulties at times let me tell you.

There's a store on the corner of Greenhill and Portrush Rd's called Atmosphere Audio. Never been in there so I cannot vouch for it, but maybe worth checking out.

If you're into vinyl, about 8 minutes away from there is Holy Vinyl, in the front of Dennis White Audio on Unley Rd. The guy in there knows his stuff, and also ran my purchase through an RCM and chucked it into anti static inner sleeves free of charge. I like!

I'll enter those addresses into the ph when I get there and if possible, will sneak away or should that be 'slink' away from the Handbrake and investigate. Thxs @@mikizee
