Imagine - a world without beer. A dark, dismal horrid place....

Perish the thought

Went along to the Wheatsheaf Hotel last night, a brewer from Brooklyn Brewery was there and they did a 'tap takeover', 5 of their taps were Brooklyn beers. I drank a couple of pints of 25th Anniversary Lager, before I found out it was 9.5-10% ABV! Woops! Couldn't even tell.

Then I was fortunate enough to chat to the brewer while drinking one of the finest (and secretive) stouts in the world - the Brooklyn Brewery Black Ops imperial stout, aged in bourbon barrels and refermented with champagne yeast. It rates 100 on ratebeer.com, and I can see why, it was amazing.

I wish we could get it here in Australia.

An excellent drop. Even better on tap on a cold night with one of their guinness pies.

It's a good one. Never had it on tap though. Whose pies are they?

The Brewery's of course! :)

Well I'll be damned. I had no idea. Fanks Jake

Whenever I go to the Rocks, which is rare, I usually end up at the Lowenbrau. I need to open my eyes to its other, perhaps brighter delights.

It's a great little pub, great beers and good simple bar food. Nothing flash at all, which is how I like it. :)

Sounds perfect Jake.

Incidentally I have a fighting chance of dropping by this Sunday, if I can convince the family while they are hypnotised by the light show.

The Rocks!!? One of my favourites for a beer. The Lord Nelson, Glenmore, Fortune of War, Harts (always rotating Aussie craft beers some from the Rocks Brewing Co...good one), Merantile, Orient and another fav, The Hero Of Waterloo. A good night, is to grab a beer or two at The Lord Nelson, then go down Argyle St, to The Cut Restaurant/Grill for a great steak......and Shiraz

Tonight I am trying Vale IPA. A bit of a misnomer, really a traditional English Ale in style. A dark cloudy ale, muddy amber really, with the usual toffee sweetness, not particularly hoppy. Rather nice, actually.

Thats a good one rehab, but yeah, not the usual hoppy bitterness that sucks your gums over your teeth that you get from a lot of other IPA's

Try the Mountain Goat IPA if you can get it up your way

Will do. I think that was the one the fellow in the bottlo this arvo was trying to remember, and recommend.

Imported Grolsch flip top stubby.

Just had two of these with dinner, lovely on a cold Friday night. Served in those Coopers Pilsener glasses, long and tall, really nice.

...NICE

It was..is...

Gage Roads Premium Lager is great value for $41 per carton, I love my ales but this lager is quite good, a bit of an ale taste to it I think.

I quite like their IPA, actually it is the first IPA I have genuinely enjoyed. Much better than Squires.

I like both, as a pure IPA I would say James-baby's is better, as a great drink, yes the Gage Rd's one is quite good. It's called Sleeping Giant now, I am not sure if this is their original one rebadged and improved or simply remarketed but yes, it's noice.

The BEST (according to my taste buds) IPA I have processed through my body is this one-

BUT, drink it with your pyjamas on, you have been warned.

Hmm, might get some Atomic Pale Ale this arvo too, haven't tried that in a while. Pale Ales would be my faves methinks.

Along with motorcycles and hi fi setups, I am also very promiscuous when it comes to beer, hehe.

Or if one is Spanish= JeJe.

Jakey, I didn't go much on the Lord Nelson Pale Ale, I found it a touch underwhelming, just my 2c worth. Then again, I certainly didn't tip it down the sink, haha, so there you go.
