Shane Hanify Posted July 12, 2005 Share Posted July 12, 2005 Out not shopping the other day, grabbed an older Marantz AV Receiver on Appro - take home, attempt to get going. Long story short, unit is faulty so I ask for alternatives without breaking the bank. Audition baby Yamaha AV Receiver (model 5 something) which is one step up from the little kid on special - not a lot of difference between the two, a couple of inputs, 5W difference - music sounded passable (is going to be primarily for HT duties so no problems there). Listened (and watched) opening credits on Resident Evil. Gobsmaked. Bought little unit (RX-V450), brought home today. Setup was a breeze, hardly needed the manual at all as the menus are quite intuitive. 2ch (plus baby sub) at the moment, running off the trusty Pioneer 667a through the QED DAC PAC. Must say I'm mightily impressed so far and the amp hasn't even been run in yet. Once I get the HT side of things running, it should be quite a blast.
