Yamaha RX-V596 8 ohm safe with Yamaha NS-555 6 ohm speakers

My old floor standing speakers have died. Need to buy a new pair. My old Yamaha receiver RX-V596 has an inpedance selector but only 4 or 8 ohm. Would connecting the 6 ohm Yamaha NS-555 speakers be OK (very keen on them). Am in a small unit - need a reasonable level of volume.Yamaha Tech Advice have never returned my call. Any advice appreciated.

Just leave it on 8 ohm.

Or, if you want to be on the safe side, set the selector for 4 Ohms. No chance of damage.

You lose power on the 4 ohm setting. Its just Yamaha being overly cautious to avoid warranty claims.

It's also the correct way to do things, when dealing with a low impedance. 4 Ohms is the correct setting.

Much appreciate the feedback! Still wading thru adverts for speakers - not sure about spending $800 on the NS-555 speakers. Luckily not in a hurry.

There,s a pair of nice looking NS-777 in the classafieds but there in Sydney.

I'm in eastern Vic 160 km east of Melbourne so I'm looking for speakers not too far away. NS-777's would be great but haven't been to Sydney since they built the bridge LOL.

Leave it at 8ohms for best sound quality regardless of whatever speakers you use.
