word_a_mowf Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I'm looking for some floor standing speakers as I'm moving my bookshelf speakers elsewhere. Looking to spend about $1500 and this will only be used for music. 99.9% of the music will by vinyl and I love clear highs and nice bass. The room they will be in is about 4x4m but might be moving to a larger room in the future. There's the obvious Klipsch stuff, Polk (look at some at Klapp Audio) etc. What's the best bang for buck for around $1500?
Steff Posted April 12 Posted April 12 If you were willing to go 2nd hand you might find access to higher quality speakers: https://www.stereonet.com/forums/classifieds/category/7-floorstanders-large-monitors/?filter=1&price=5&status=all The Yamaha NS-1000M do enjoy a good reputation and wide popularity. 2nd hand offers fewer auditioning options, of course. Even at the lower price point some v. attractice units: https://www.stereonet.com/forums/classifieds/category/7-floorstanders-large-monitors/?filter=1&price=4&status=all Clef Hifi has these Yamaha, also second hand: https://clefhifi.com.au/home/7153-yamaha-soavo-1-floorstanding-speakers-piano-black-second-hand.html
075Congo Posted April 13 Posted April 13 The pair of Magnepan 1.7's in the Classifieds would be a wonderful choice.

There are a lot of speakers for sale in the classifieds for you to investigate, you could even go under budget….. Best to narrow your search down to Sydney so you are able to audition the goods to see if they look good and sound good to you? Your amp isn’t a particularly powerful one so efficient speakers might be the way to go? If and when you move the bigger speakers to the bigger room later, will you be using the same amp or will you use a different one? I had a pair of JBL L5’s for sale here that might be of interest to you? You could also bring your amp to test them if that fits in with your vision? But do look at Classifieds here and create a list of possible contenders. All the best 1

I understand it would give me way better value for money. Appreciate the links! Will check them out now. 1

Your amp will get the speakers going that’s for sure, I had the 701’s and found them flat (or very neutral) and needed to increase the volume level to get a little bit more out of them, your amp is 60 watts so should be an ok start. Don’t feel the need to upgrade your amp too soon, see how yours performs first then make a decision. 2
word_a_mowf Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 Thank you for the reply. There's currently nothing wrong with my Canton speakers, I'm just seeking to upgrade for the sake of getting something better. And taller. 1
