MrRogers Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Is there really an audible difference between Eichmann and Neutrik RCA connectors?

Paul Spencer Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Probably not ... I'd guess the solder you use would be a factor as well, perhaps more important, and the cable itself which would account for most of the job is going to be more significant. Consider also that inside any audio component there are many parts that the signal will travel through. If you are worried about the sonics of the RCA plug ... then to be consistent you have to look at the leg of every resistor! It's enough to drive you nuts! Also consider that in between the actual recording and master there are a lot of different cables, probably many of them longer than you would use, and a big banks of equipment in the studio. It's not likely that they obsessed over every single plug in the studio. There is definitely a visual difference. WBT look the goods, but those Neutriks look pretty daggy. Blue and red plastic?!!! WBT seem to be pretty pricey, often with much cheaper yet decent alternatives. I'd be looking at a few places like Chrome Audio and Selby Acoustics that have some great value connectors.
tuyen Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I can hear the difference between eichmann bullet plugs and standard cheap shiney gold plated tin plugs on my main music system. On my sister's ipod -> stereo setup, I can't hear the difference.
Guest Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Another thing will need to watch out for is the male Eichmann plugs centre pin can damage the centre connection in some female RCA's ,be careful using them with WBT's NexGen female RCA's . Cheers
vincents Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Ok well you must have been tempting a respsonse... I have had the benefit of testing different connectors with the same cable. Comparisons range from moderately priced, to eichmans, dhlabs silver sonic and many more. First it does depend on your kit (eg low compression mp3 files may not benefit). But better rca plugs do make a difference you can often hear. Next every brand has lesser and better plugs. The newer bottom range eichman's made of brass are not nearly as good as their copper or silver connectors. The article referred to was quite old and eichmann have made changes including the colour since that article. The WBT of course were silver ones so not inexpensive. I am not decrying Neutrik but they do not seem to be in the same league. Oyaide and Furutech are emerging as favourites for many. But the Eichmanns are still used by some of the highest priced brands for their impressive sound quality - they have a design difference which sets them apart. So provided you have a quality system the difference can be heard. cheers
Paul Spencer Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 You can pretty much guarantee that if you get enough responses to a question like this, you will hear: decent cables don't sound different, so neither do the plugs they sound different if they measure different they might sound different, but the difference is small if it exists at all everything makes a difference, even the plugs plug X sounds better than plug Y Who do you believe? Just because someone thinks they hear a difference, doesn't mean it exists except between their ears. Likewise, just because someone thinks there is no difference, doesn't mean it isn't there. And likewise again, just because it can or can't be heard by a particular person in a particular system doesn't mean that you will or won't even in that system, much less your own. I'm probably not helping.
