Another Canberra Radio Station Goes Mono

Featured Replies

2XX (98.3 MHz) has been mono for a week now...

I checked out 2XX on 98.3 FM with car radio yesterday. The "st" did not appear on the radio display.

Both 2CA and 2CC on 1053 and 1206 respectively have not resumed their broadcasts in AM Stereo either.

Actually, 2CC is still AM stereo. It hasn't missed a beat in all this time. Since 2CA and 2CC are owned by the same company, I wish they'd take 2CC's obviously rock solid stereo modulator and bolt it on 2CA's transmitter. 2CC doesn't need it for the talkback programming they broadcast.

That ain't going to happen, it'll sound better than the DAB+ broadcast then, makes it hard to sell when AM sounds better. ;)

Looks like 2CC (1206kHz Canberra) has dropped AM stereo. Was stereo last week.

On my Sony AM Stereo Receiver, 2CC is no longer broadcasting in AM Stereo. When receiving 2CC (1206), I can still hear 2CA (1053) in the background.

Never noticed that, but 2CA has a lot of frame buzz hum in its signal, lately. Might be some neighbour's new TV, but it's there day and night.

Are you near 2CA's transmitter (back of EPIC)? Might be overloading the front end of your radio.

I am not near 2CAs transmitter. The 2CA signal behind the 2CC broadcast sounds thin like SSB.

I would've thought the distance would be enough between the 2CA studios & Transmitter at about 1km apart, but being directional, the high power lobe could be directed at the studios, & there is 2CA RF bleeding into the 2CC transmission chain somewhere in the studios. It has happened in other places before, but the studio to transmitter distance was much shorter. It's probably bleeding into the 2CA transmission chain too, but being the same program is unnoticeable.
