franga Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Seems some possible pricing news for the new Natal add-on Project Natal to cost $149 by itself, $299 with 360 Arcade, according to latest rumours *Note - US pricing Its going to be very interesting to see what we get charged here........$200 by itself? Getting just a little pricey as the 360 system so cheap.
nonny Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Its going to be very interesting to see what we get charged here........$200 by itself?Getting just a little pricey as the 360 system so cheap. I think that is a little high... $99us is probably the sweet spot and for anyone to be buying this when they already have an Xbox 360 there are surely going to be some pack-in extras like compendium games and so on. Bottom line is whilst this is an optional peripheral MS wants it to be the hub of their interaction with the 360 going forward and therefore needs to make it a viable purchase to anyone who owns the system. In effect what I am saying is they have to loss-lead with the hardware to get an installed user-base. This isnt just for motion-controlled games. This is going to be used to interact with the dashboard without a controller (ie, selecting a movie to watch by scrolling through content) as well as being implemented into normal genre games as an additional input on top of using a conventional controller. If they can get the latter working well then it's the main draw-card for this over Wii/PS3 Move. The fact you can use a normal controller like a steering wheel, joypad etc... & use Natal for perhaps head-tracking, voice recognition and other immersive stuff means it has appeal outside the basic motion controlled stuff we've seen up until now. My hopeful guess is it'll be $149 here with one compendium game thrown in. I think $200 is a little rich given you're getting into console purchasing territory there.
davep Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 I still am undecided about motion control & Natal. I enjoy playing the Wii with mates, but other than that, it gets no use. A control pad just seems to make too much sense to me.

I am in the same camp and I think that is precisely what MS is aiming for... to cater for the established motion-control games but also bolster the appeal of this device in conventionally controlled games as well. If you search on youtube you'll see a wealth of implementations of head-tracking for PC games (mostly flight sims and FPS) which could be easily adapted into the current Xbox stable diet. I forsee a world of Forza4 where you can look left/right at your wing mirrors etc... all whilst using your normal steering wheel or controller for more tactile input.
automan Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I am hanging to get this product. I think it is awesome!! Guys, remember that the US people get half the wages we do here so if its 99 bucks there then it will be 200 here. So effectively it will be the same price for us as it is for them.

There aren't any games for it yet and I can't think of the single game in the works that looks remotely interesting. What are you going to actually use it for?

What are you going to actually use it for? Havent Microsoft announced that Milo thing? Or was that just a tech demo? What about all those faux bowling games? Not that either of them, this tech or Sony's Move actually sound interesting...

Not that either of them, this tech or Sony's Move actually sound interesting... Nothing but tech demos for now but pencil in June 13th for the official launch un-veiling with Cirque Du Soliel... seriously. It's going to be the usual guff presentation type affair for the media but at least we'll get to hear what the official name is (current rumour is "Wave"), the pricing, release date... and of course the games available on launch. I am sure we'll see the usual deluge of party compendium stuff like Wii Sports etc... but hopefully there'll be decent buy-in from other developers and such.

The in-house teams need to get it right first. Rare and who ever else MS have as first and third party developers need to ensure they have something worth showing Sony have shown their hand in what their first and third party developers are doing - again, not that it looks that cool (although, I hate to say this, I am curious about that Fighting game)
piccard21 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Sony and micro are committed to preventing a flood of 'crapware' ports coming over from the wii, but the more popular 3rd party kids games are a given with regards to an HD port over for both move and natal. Fable 3 will use natal, it will be up to the developers to make natal succeed with the core market. Its likely that natal will compliment your game pad and not replace it during a 'core' game experience. One aspect about natal that seems to get overlooked often is the voice recognition, sorting your inventory in an rpg using voice commands and discreet hand gestures could go a long way towards streamlining the experience. Personally I'm cautiously optimistic regarding natal's ability to improve my gaming experience, but I wont fork over a single cent until the supporting software is proven and plentiful.

Didn't 'End War' support voice commands in a very capable way? I don't know that this is something Natal has introduced to the Xbox since it seems to have be do-able, just not really used a whole lot.

They say that now, but wait until the damn things are released. Whats the bet that Take 2's Carnival Games ends up on both systems - it was a "huge" seller on the Wii (not forgetting that it was bundled with almost every console in Australia at one point) and no doubt would make a prime transition from SD to HD console owners (ie people who play it on Wii will know the brand and the game, and if they 'liked' it they might go out and get a HD console etc) Crapware is coming, be prepared
diesel Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Looks like it's been officially given a launch name - no more Natal Microsoft Kinect gets official, Video Chat announced

Gobias Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I'm still sceptical about it until I see people use it without being controlled by Microsoft. I'm also interested to see what happens if theres 2 people in a room during a single player game, will the camera pick up the wrong person if they are moving around too?

windeath Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Now pretend the two gorgeous models aren't demonstrating the Kinect, just watch to see how this new super tech is a bit of a dud at this stage. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/...te-Kinect-Badly
davep Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Yeah as much as I love my 2 360's, if thats the sorta crap they are putting out with motion etc, I'm still not interested. I'm too old (and dont have any half nekkid hottie asian models) to be jumping around in my own lounge.
windeath Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 (and dont have any half nekkid hottie asian models) Fear not davep...you can borrow the two I have.
