So has anyone found confirmed info (AVS or somewhere else) that these new sets c7000/c8000 still suffer from flashlighting and clouding? I am already on my second 55b8000 that suffers the problems and don't really see the point arguing with Samsung about changing for the same model with the same faults...

I doubt you will see a significant improvement with new models that use edge lighting like the B8000, it’s the nature of edge lit LCD.

You should have picked up a B750 ccfl model when they were available, screen uniformity was not a problem with them.

Yeah, I probably should have :(

I (no doubt like many others) am still annoyed that Samsung arn't going to bring the 8500 local dimming panel to AU.

You can posibly still get a 52B750 from Bing Lee and Sony should have a new local dimming models coming, they should be good.

I think the new Samsung pricing is very very aggressive, good for the buyer.

Old model

PS63B680 RRP $6499

PS63A750 RRP $7699

New model

PS63C7000 RRP $4499 !!!

Although I have only had my PS58B550 for two months, I would consider the 63C7000 towards the end of this year if prices came down.

$4499? Here are the prices I just found at Digital Centre: http://www.digitalcentre.com.au/c/267190/1...-plasma-tv.html

50" $1,997

58" $2,798

63" $3,498...

If you'd have told me a year ago I could buy a 3d 63" plasma for that I would have laughed...

That is a ridiculous price! $1000 off RRP before the product is even launched. Plus that includes a 5 year warranty! Really the price is more like $3200 + $300 or so for the warranty. Awesome :D

Hellz Yeah :o

Thanks alot for the headsup. But a warning there are a few horror stories dealing with DigitalCentre, an example here of them increasing the price after the purchase...

Thanks for that likwidsh0k.... I'm hoping to just go into JB or something and get them to match it. At least we know it's possible for them to sell it at this price. I wonder what wholesale might be - perhaps just over $3k for the 63"?

Well I'd be going 10% off for cash - that's almost under 3k!

From overseas reviews the Panas are probably slightly better but for the same money you could get a 50 or a 63...decisions decisions mmm..

I've read the same. If those prices are accurate though and it was my money, I would be getting the Samsung. (Bigger is better ... or was that implied?). Panny's premium is just way too high. I'm a little surprised they've gone that way, considering they've had time to evaluate Samsung's pricing. Good luck to them. There should be some pretty cheap Panny 3D Plasmas up for grabs this time next year!

Great thread!! I’ve gained some valuable info reading all the posts. Thought I’ll join and add my 2 cents worth.

Went to my local Harvey Normans yesterday and checked out the C7000 LED. The 3D was good, but not great. There was a bit of double imaging present at certain scenes and the 3D depth was minimal. The sense of depth was hardly visible with the 2D to 3D converter. I was impressed with the viewing angles and the glasses did not bother me as some have reported.

Aesthetically my personal preference is that the B8000 was a much ‘sexier’ unit. The chrome border around the C7000 LED looks tacky, plastic and cheap.

I’ve had my heart set on the UA55C8000 for a while now, but the price of the PS58C7000 is very appealing! Extra 3 inches (i’ve been told an extra 3” makes all the difference in the world... hopefully its the same with a TV:)) and a saving of $1800 as per RRP. My only concerns with going plasma is screen burn . I intend to connect a Media centre PC to the TV and will be using it for games. How much is screen burn a problem with new plasmas? Don’t most have an anti burn feature?

Another thing that is making me lean towards the PS58C7000 over the UA55C8000 is availability before the World Cup. I’ve contacted Samsung regarding the release of the C8000 and all they can tell me is June. Knowing Samsung i can’t see any retailers having sufficient stock til end of July.

What to do..what to do?

I found the sense of depth of the scenes from M vs. A and also the 2d to 3d weak at Harvey Norman Frankston. But I don't know if they upgraded the firmware like they were supposed to. Also the PC version

of 2d to 3d by DDD who make the chip for Samsung have sliders to control the amount of depth and how much behind or in front of the screen

I don't know if the Samsung have those controls I'm convinced the Frankston store isn't set up properly. As others have seen good depth and good 2d to 3d conversion at other stores.

I just went to see Clash of the Titans today. As I understand it was shot in 2D then rendered to 3.

There were some major problems, and yet some sections looked fantastic!

Sometimes when showing people's heads they seems to stretch back for feet, quite bizarre actually. Yet even 2 minutes in to the movie they had a camera pan across an ocean that looked amazing...

I can't wait to have a look at one of these plasmas to see what the 2 to 3D rendering is like.

Cheers

Clash of the Titans took about 2 months to convert using hundreds of graphic artists all using human intelligence

it is impossible to get 2d to 3d on the fly to produce anything like that unfortunately, but maybe in the future with super intelligent bionic chips you have to feed maybe LOL

I had assumed the artifacts with people's heads were due to a poorly reflecting projection screen at the cinema but I am beginning to realize the movie must be grotesquely flawed whenever viewed in 3D, taking account of your post above, and a few others on the net such as post #5 here:-

Clash of the Titans was shot in 2D and computerized 3D was introduced in post production, the equivalent of "colorization" of the old vintage B & W movies. It leaves a lot to be desired. The post processing of 3D introduced a lot of artifacts including bodies that look 3 feet thick, head shots that have really strange edge effects (as if you could see around the edge contours, parts that shouldn't be visible), bulging faces, and 2D backgrounds with 3D objects in them. The 3D was really done poorly. Some of these artifacts show in Alice in Wonderland, which was post 3D, but they were much more subtle in that movie.

My partner and I noticed the double images particularly with hair on a person's head, that seemed to stretch back about 3 feet.

We also noticed the scene you mention, at about 2 minutes into the movie, of the ocean. It looked so good I wonder whether it was genuine 3D footage, not part of the original filming for the movie.

I think it was just a really poor, botched conversion. While most of the movie looked alright they should have fixed the stretched heads!

I saw Alice in 3D and even though there was some what I call excessive "layering",(ie. objects in a sort of front, middle and distance), there was no stretching like in Clash.

Went down to JB's new store in South Wharf (Melbourne) today to check out the new 55c7000 including the 3D glasses...my first look at 3D since movie world some 10 years ago watching M vs A...first impressions was wow. Depth appeared amazing; I got immersed in the movie instantly (had a fiddle with the settings), colour fantastic, contrast excellent and overall a pretty good first viewing. I did notice some blurring in a couple of scenes but I will put this down to the fact that the glasses didn't handle the fluro lights in the store well at all and kept kept cutting in and out. According to the young salesman there they just unboxed it and put it out to view...so probably no FW upgrades or the like, and his manager said turning the lights off for a viewing was an issue and declined. (Will need to address this if they focus on the 3D part of this box for the sale). 2D picture on this screen was what I expected, sensational. After owning the 55b8000 (albeit no BR) i can see a vast improvement already instore on PQ.....time will tell when it is in my lounge room watching FTA. The remote I quite enjoyed...sort of a cross between a mobile phone and laptop key pad and had some useful short cut buttons (ie. 3D on/off etc.). The silver legs I thought didn't really match the black surround on the 7000 so I will wait with baited breath to see it on the 8000. There was a rumor floating around the store that the release of the 8000 (a couple of weeks away) may even include bd-c6900 player bundled....nice if it is true. Didn't get to play with Internet@TV or Media player or the Sammy Apps but the menu looked pretty good. Overall the finish on this machine was certainly a step up from the b series of 09 which I though was excellent. Stock for the store still hasn't arrived yet probably due to HN paying big bucks to get the first shipment to AU. Next will be to have a look at this machine in an environment it is suited to for 3D. Price $4496 (I think if I remember correctly)...More to come...

55 " LED $4,500

63" Plasma $3,500

Both 3D. Same brand. As they say in America: do the math! Crazy.
