I have been going back to this place a few times.

The Original Frango offers some nice food. Charcoal chicken and roast pork are 2 specials.

Very juicy and tasty chicken with peri peri (chilly sauce).

Go there and ask for Tanya and mention "Jack", she might give you a VIP 10% discount on the spot. :)

PM me if you want to know the address...

Their frango was almost a fortnightly thing for us when we lived near Petersham.

Yummmm!

Unfortunately, I can't find anything.. yes, anything.. that remotely matches this in Melbourne :)

Hi k_,

You were planning a trip to Sydney before X'mas, right? I will take you there if you are planning you next trip.

Yummmm!

hello JCR33,

Well, that "planned" trip to Sydney passed some weeks ago.

The wife made it to Sydney for a girls weekend out

and I had the kid here in Melbourne.

We did have fun at the aquarium, cafes, etc.

Now, I will have some brownie points for a Sydney visit sometime this year :)

Well, unless SA beckons first (catching up with some rellies).

cheers

I'm a massive fan of Nando's and am drooling at the prospect of what I assume is a much much better version of Portuguese chicken. Will have to make the journey next time I am in Sydney.

Kevin, let me know if you have any luck finding a Melbourne equivalent :)

As said, I was there this afternoon, the place was packed and we had to wait for 20 mins to get our food..., not sure if SNA should get some commission for the extra business!

:)

Portuguese beer, hand sliced chips, frango and skewer rump..., I skipped dinner after all these.

I cook a mean Frango and peri peri (and I'm from Melbourne!). My wife is Portuguese, so I had no choice but to learn the secrets of the Frango. I'm getting close to as good as the stuff from Portugal, but the mystique and beauty of that country always makes the chicken taste better there!

hello Zammo!

Yummy indeed.

Yes, the special spices do errmm.. spice things up :love

Mmm.. and the flat chook over some hot charcoal dripping with the sauce.

Do you know what happened with the Portuguese community and cuisine here in Melbourne?

Any recommendations?

cheers

ps. rippingdragon -- did you hear? Zammo does a mean frango :)

The Portuguese community in Melbourne is much smaller than that in Sydney. There have been very few authentic Portuguese restaurants here over the years, and none I can recommend at the moment. I have the luxury of a very good Portuguese cook in my mother-in-law, though, so don't need to go out for the real stuff.

Frango tends not to be restaurant food, though - more take-away, or very basic family bistro stuff. There really is no good reason why no one has opened an authentic Frango bbq in Melbourne. Nando's is just O.k., Oporto is very poor. There is a real hole in the market for good Frango in Melbourne!!!
