This may have already been covered earlier but here goes anyway. Have just wasted more time than i'd like to say here trying to set up the FTP connectivity. I use FTP almost daily at work, mainly with WS_FTP LE, both to a mainframe with my normal userid and to other laptops for file sharing using the standard 'anonymous' userid, damned if i could get it to work on my 7100 on either the wireless connection or cable. Thought this may be my FTP client as there are many different connection types to select from so i pulled down FileZilla but came acros the same problems.

In my frunstration with always typing anonymous i decided to use 'top' as the userid and password after changing it on the 7100 FTP server, 'low and behold', without any further configuration the conenction worked.......

I am guessing that there may be a character limit on userid's/passwords perhaps, does anyone have any idea why this might be ?

Oh, by the way, everything else with the toppy so far is fantastic, including the build quality, this unit is far better put together than most popular brands. Also pleased to note that looking through the vents in the lid i can see that it is a quality Seagate drive and not some cheap 'no-name' brand.

Also, i have a panasonic SD DVD recorder, anyone want to buy it as there is no need for it now in my theatre set up.

I am going to connect a 1000gb HDD externally soon.

I still have not connected the FTP but.... any tips? was it hard?

If i get this working i may not need to connect the 1000gb to the topfield, but to my pc

I believe you cannot set an anonymous user on the 7100 - the clue is that you cannot create a user without a password. There may also be a username length limit but I'm not sure about that.

In hindsight it wasn't hard but check my post #301....there seems to be an issue with username/password.....more on the password side i think, just use what the book says i.e. username=top and make the password the same. Remember it will be case sensitive and the default on the toppy is upper case, i changed it to lower case as this is what i usually use on the PC.

Tried a transfer of 1.6gb, took about 4 minutes on a cabled connection, i gave up waiting when i tried it through the wireless connection, way to slow for me. I'm sure the wireless will come in handy for something.....

it also suggests to use static IP's, worked ok as dynamically allocated but it means you have to keep checking and changing your FTP client to get the right connection so best make it static.

Remember you need to set up the Network connection and activate it as well as setting up the FTP server and starting that too.

Good luck.....short answer, not too difficult. :D

Also, to clarify, when i used anonymous as the userid i also used a password of anonymous, the response seemed to accept the userid but not the password, then tried anonymous with a password of password and it still failed.

Not too concerned anyway, working fine now.

I am loving mine as well the only thing I have noticed is changing channels can be a little slow and I am used to that on the LX508 sometimes it fine then sometimes i get a part picture then it fully changes, sometimes it's a blackscreen then changes. Anyone else having issues like these??

goto System Settings->A/V Output Setting. Is the Video format set to Auto or 1080i? If set to Auto it will take longer to change as the tv needs to re-sync on resolution changes. If you set it to 1080i the TV will always get a 1080i signal so no re-syncs.

cheers,

John

Has anyone seen these units in Perth yet ?

Picked one up from Powerhouse - I like their return policy ;) - Innaloo today for $700 after a Good Guys price-match. Pretty good price for Perth.

Both have lots of stock ...

As far as FTP goes... just make up a user name and then a password and SAVE to a FTP profile.

This is very important..you must save to a profile.

Where channel change delay is concerned.

I have set my toppy up in AV for 1080i and still have a 3 second delay in channel change.

I have a full HD LCD TV and using component cables.

Picked my 7100 up from Good Guys sunshine coast for $645 - they started out at $690 but came down very quickly when I mentioned others had bought it at the same store for $645. Thanks for all your posts guys!

So far it is great, only one niggle I have is that when you did an instant record on my old 5000pvrt it inserted the name of the program you recorded once complete. The 7100 doesn't appear to do that it leaves the name as channel 7 or whatever channel you recorded.

I thought the Toppy 7100 had advertised a quick channel change time of ~1sec (just like the 7000). Would have thought Component connections would negate the need for any re-syncing

Thanks John regarding the channel changing will change now.

BILLY TWO HATS: I am on the Gold Coast and I got mine for $647 from Retravision Bundall from Daniel I think, young guy anyway. Good luck.

Well I picked up my 7100 on Saturday, to replace a stolen 5000. My god, what a nice piece of kit! All of the little issues with the 5000 (Fast forwarding, freeze frame, etc) are gone with th 7100 (and I presume the 7000). Works beautifully, great picture, very easy to use. Glad I finally splurged.

Have to get the WLAN working yet; this leads to my one small issue with the machine, that I don't feel the manual is completely up to date (i.e. some menu paths and titles have changed) and as a result getting things like the WLAN working isn't the easiest, nor the most intuitive thing, but that is a very small issue on the whole.

Anyone who has a 5000 and is thinking of upgrading, DO IT.

Hey all, bit of a problem here.

Picked up one of these today, all seemed well then i decided to do a firmware update with the usb key. It said in the manual, that it would say end on the unit when its done, but nothing is happening, been around 20 minutes. All im getting is a blank screen. I don't want to reset incase that will cause damage. Any ideas?

EdIt: dont worry, i just shut if off an on at the mains, and it updated properly...

Picked up my 7100 yesterday and everything set up fairly easily. Even ftp'ed my first recording wirelessly to my pc :P

One complaint: comparing picture quality between toppy and my inbuilt tuner on the Pana 42in, it looks like the video coming from the toppy is very slightly elongated. I'm not saying it's the toppy's fault ... maybe just the way my Pana handles the signal.

Tried both component and HDMI. Tried different a/v setup on toppy as well.

Anybody else see this difference?

You dont by chance have the ratio setting on your tv's 'av" setting you have connected the toppy to on the wrong setting?

Nope, tried them all anyway.

I have a Topfield 7000 and a pana 42px80a and don't have any issues here. The zoom settings are saved per input on the pana - perhaps the TV input you are using for the Topfield has a different zoom setting such as "just" on it? When I first got the pana I started using the "Just" setting on the TV which I thought was equivalent to overscan, but it isn't, and it gave this sort of effect. I now run the TV at 16:9 on all inputs with overscan set to on through the setup menu (to get rid of the edges that either aren't there or have black and white dots on them), toppy also set to 16:9 and it looks great on both HDMI and component.

One thing that I am finding annoying is when scrolling through the EPG it changes channels?

I like to stay on the channel I was watching while looking for other shows. Is this possible?

I also thought IceTV would change the GUI to something better than the default, unfortunately not it seems.

I'm coming from a Toppy 5000 and the thing I really miss is the Just EPG TAP - fantastic EPG.

The standard EPG layout is sub-par to say the least...fingers crossed a new design can be implemented.

Other than that I am loving the 7100.

I believe the "EPG channel not changing" enhancement is "coming soon" - it is in the latest beta for the 7000 so should be soon on the 7100 as well.

as for the EPG GUI, IceTV is only responsible for getting EPG and timer info onto the 7100 not for the GUI.

cheers,

John

Thanks cliffo, must admit I'm going to have a hard time saying goodbye to JE when I finally 'upgrade' to HD.
