Bunyip's Boudoir

Featured Replies

Hello cheeky (sounds like the start of a Carry-On film doesn't it!)

One vote for bungalow - noted!

Do you have your setup posted in the showcase? I'd love to take a look at those speakers.

To be honest - I'd never even heard of PMC until I started auditioning, and I really wanted a couple of the other contenders to win my ears over. But these babies just nailed it for me. I'd never heard of TL technology either. Boy it works though.

Are you coming to the wine and cheese GTG at Moots?

Oh, and I'm thinking:

Bunyip's Bodacioutorium.

Yes it does sound a bit like the start of a carry on flick.:(

Who the hell is Moots and when is it on?..................I find myself back in Melbourne by default and if it's in February I'll probably be able to make it.

I have pics of my system all over this place but here's one of the speakers I took today.......

Thanks Bunyip, I found the thread last night and it should be a good afternoon...........especially with Prof's speakers playing. They are especially good and I can't believe they're still for sale...........I hope the room at the shop does them justice. I've promised my daughter that I'd make it to listen some live music with her on Sunday arvo so I won't make it to the cheese shop but I'm sure you'll all have a good time.

I see the PMC speakers you're getting from the UK are subject of another thread here and they are available locally in Oz.............did you buy yours from the UK or did you own them over there? I just ask as I take it you would have had some experience with them prior to purchase............the initial reviews in the other thread were mixed to say the least.

Cheers,

Keith

Shame we won't get to catch up over a glass of wine and cheese cheeky. However going to see some live music with your daughter is a pretty unbeatable choice I'd have to say. Hopefully there'll be another time.

I did indeed listen to them here. Carlton Audiovisual are the dealers here in Melb. I lugged my Cayin there twice to have a listen and they were very accommodating and helpful there. I could have walked out the door with a pair in cherry, however I wanted Walnut, and that meant a special order to PMC in the UK. Thus the 6 week delay.

Yep I read that other thread. As I mentioned there it just goes to show how different our ears/tastes/systems are.

After my joyful 2 auditioning sessions with them, I was astounded to find average reviews about these speakers. There was one guy on some European forum who said he couldn't even be in the same room as them!! But reading the rest of his thread he did come across as the true audiophile wanker.

Main thing is I'm happy. Impatiently waiting, but happy.

By the way, I like your listening room - nice wall decorations!

I'll have a glass of Pinot for you mate.

It has to be Bunyp's lair. Bunyips live in lairs. See here.

Alternatively, you could go for the Giant Mutant Chicken's Hutch.

Hmm, let me see...

"Oh hi Dave, hi Simone, please come in, hang up your coats and step into the Giant Mutant Chicken Hutch. Glass of wine?"

Kind of just rolls off the tongue doesn't it?

Trust me to be late. I'm a little slow, but this is a great thread bunyip and your room looks the goods too. Can't wait to see the PMC's in there. Don't bunyips live down in the murky depths of boggy waterways?

BUNYIPS BOG perhaps?

We have a Bunyip here in SA, but it looks nothing like a Rooster

Hi Grumps, does that Bunyip live in The Port mate?..............

No, it's back in Melb ---- Na! only kiddin' ; Murray Bridge actually Keith.

Hey Grumps, glad you made it here.

Thanks for the nice comments about the room.

Bunyip's Bog? Maybe.

I know the SA Bunyip very well. I'm an Adelaide boy, and got freaked out by that thing in my younger days.

I had the pleasure of doing to same to my kids last Easter on our way through to go camping on KI.

Is this your Bunyip Grumps and Giant Mutant Chicken?...........

Doesn't look much like a chicken I gotta say fellas!

Well, no - but he tastes like chicken. (That's where the missing arm went)

Hey Mr Bunyip,

I was going back over some earlier Showcase posts and stumbled across this one. Congrats on the room, it looks like a lovely space - it's just a pity that the speakers have to be 'parked' after each use.

I see by your signature that you have your PMCs - how are you finding them? Today I helped a friend out by being his 'second pair of ears' when auditioning speakers down at Carlton AV. The PMCs sure were impressive... Both in the large bookshelf models and the slim floorstanding models!

Any chance of an updated picture?

Cheers,

Evan

Great pics Mr Bunyip. You are to be congratulated. Good to see the squeezebox fitted so well on that shelf.

The speakers look sensational.

Thanks Wolster. I got about 2mm clearance on that baby after dropping the lower shelf to the absolute max!

beautiful looking and sounding system Bunyip. When I heard your PMC's I thought they sounded so refined and suited the room.

Now tell me, how do you do those low light level shots where the glow of the valves appears? I've never been able to work it out.

Hi Bunyip

lovely set up. I really like the tidiness of it. Very comfortable room as well.

It is great to see my old Cayin TP55 there - I got quite nostalgic - it was one piece of gear I missed when it left. And something of a bargain second hand. How is the phono stage? I always wondered.

PM me you postal address - I found the Cayin white gloves for changing the tubes and also the two missing Cayin plastic covers for the input plugs on the rear. It would be nice to have the amp complete with accessories. Another option is for me to give them to JD and he can give them to you next time he sees you.

Thanks for sharing.

Best Wishes

Andrew

Thanks lads. It's all part of maxing out the WAF.

Lebowski - I used a tripod, turned off nearly all the lights and had an exposure time of aroud 20 seconds I think.

tricka - I don't think I've had a chance to thank you in person for that amp. I love it and it came along from mr darko just as I was about to pill the trigger on a new one!

I love it. But my wife still doesn't get what "the baubles" are for.

Phono stage seems good - but to be honest I haven't really compared it to anthing else. One day I might get an outboard phono stage once I upgrade my turntable.

I would love those accesories! I'll PM you my address.

Cheers.

Wow! These new pics look even better ( I like the use of the fireplace - really adds some drama), and so quick too! Congrats!

Those new PMCs look to be a much better fit within the room. Their dimensions are just right, and I bet they sound the business, too! I was really impressed with them during our listen yesterday, however I think I've fallen in love with the dipolar nature of ribbons. The minute the Ambiences were plugged in I smiled - "It sounds like happy".

I'm also interested in the keytar in the corner - into a bit of Herbie Hancock action??? :)

Pleasure.

My wife loved the PMC's as well - she wanted to know why I must have 57's when the smaller ones looked so much tidier.

Cheers

The keytar is cardboard and texta.

This is why I made it:
