David,

The latest word to Cary dealers here in the States is an expected eta of the first week in December, but all dealers were told to advise all customers that delivery will be the second week in December. We cannot really blame Cary as there are so many manufacturers suffering shortages and delays with new 1.3A devices. But it is still questionable as to how Cary will have the time to take deliver of the hdmi boards, install them and QC them in such a short time period. Haste makes waste in this new era of hdmi.

The 11V will take up a lot of room under the tree this December. Hopefully not.

Pushing Cary to release some solid information on the 11V is a wonderful idea. Keep pushing for more information. With the various delays and the like, this would be a great step by Cary to disseminate some real information on the 11V unit.

Stan

No scaler ever announced ended up on the streets at due time ! Usual delay is 6 months to 1 year ! Or no dates are given at all (eg McIntosh VP1000)

So even if the available date will be around the 15th of December that is still among the shortest delays for a scaler ! And if we have a perfect unit with only minor need of firmware updates (maybe even none) and with all option unlocked, then my respect to Cary Audio !

The Anthem D2 was delayed for over one year after initial announcement.

Yes that is correct !

And if I remember well the Radiance is reaching an unprecedented record !

Since its first announcement at has been more than a year and a half, it will be soon a 2 years delays since Lumagen gave the preliminary specs (they changed alot since then).

Just a quick copy from a contributor over in AVS Forum:

"I can tell you from PERSONAL experience that DD on the Cary with the player outputing the HBR in PCM and converting it down is superior to high rez audio on the Inetgra 9.8."

I have been suspicious about the DTC9.8 sound quality from the start.

I found it hard to beleive that it can compete with high end audio gear. Even price wise it is hard to beleive (seems so cheap ... oddly cheap) and it lacks all the usual tweaks we could find in old Integra units, not to mention Integra Research. It really looks like the integrated 905 but whitout the amp stage and with some extra balanced stereo in and 7.1 outs ... nothing special anyway (better DAC, clock ... nothing makes a real difference).

I agree with your comments about Audyssey !

All my home theater fellow friends who listened to the EQ pro were simply flown away ! I did a VS match with Velodyne integrated EQ (same as SMS1) and the EQ pro, the Velodyne correction is outperformed ! The AudysseyXT bass filtering is way better ! A friend tried the Trinnov systeme (very expensive boxe), he found the EQ pro just as good and it is for the fraction of the price ! I had some info about the new standalone Audyssey boxes and they are very exciting (I guess it is still confidential so I won't say more).

As for where I live ... well some place fare fare away ... and that is unfortunate ! France that is !

I just came here to enjoy the exciting news, get the good advices and chat with nice folks !

Hi Jackox (or bunjore - is that the right spelling?),

Thanks, for your first hand experineces of the Audyssey.

I think I would like to start a seperate thread on these units to answer questions. There is way to much confusion out there of what these products do and the various levels. With the new products coming, this will be even further confussion for the average person. Like any product, if you install it incorrectly (like placing a mic in the middle of the room), you will affect preformance.

I have not personally listened to the 9.8. Cannot locate one anywhere. And the Integra that I ordered two months ago is MIA. But, a very good knowledgeable friend of mine in Florida has a 9.8 in his HT and states that it is quieter than the Anthem D2 for surround MC purposes in his HT. He is a former D2 owner like myself and believes that the new Integra is about 90-95% of the Anthem for 1/4 of the price. 2 Channel on the Integra is pretty much business as usual and is not really up to par. I respect his opinion and honestly believe that there is a change brewing in the hdmi dominated pre-pro/receiver market as manufacturers really need to go back to the drawing board in order to differentiate themselves from the improving mass market surround processors that are now being released.

Just as Cary has done with its' two box audio and video Cinema 11 team.

My one concern with the Cary Cinema 11v is HDMI compatability. Stan will remember the myriad of problems with getting gear to work on the HDMI ports of the Anthem D2. I (and all others concerned here) certainly don't want to see this happen with the Cinema 11v. It really sounds like an impressive piece of equipment, and I will certainly look to getting the Cinema 11 combo sometime in the future.

My expectations are that the HDMI handshaking issues that we all suffered through with the D2 will me minimized with the Cinema 11 duo. Remember, the D2 was the first pre-pro to offer other than straight pass-through via HDMI. And all of the first generation HDDVD and Blu-Ray players had serious issues with HDMI. Apparently, many audio manufacturers failed to abide by the full HDMI spec. Timing/handshaking issues were prevalent with every new software update of almost every HD and BD player.

Never mind all of the cable boxes and Tivo's, etc. I am still a proponent of component useage for my two HD Tivo boxes as the PQ is equal to HDMI and with all of the channel changing, there is no delay in reacquiring the station.

Today, with HDMI 1.3A, this is hopefully a thing of the past. I know that the Integra 9.8 has some lip sync issues. But these can easily be corrected.

I expect Cary to have this under control. If they don't, then I will be a guinea pig for them just as I was for Anthem!

No doubt, however, waiting is the best choice for the weak of experimentators amongst us.

Interesting point Stan, Taking the Hi Fidelity argument out of the discussion for a minute, I felt like the idea of Cary's split components was fresh and forward thinking compared to the 'bigger is better' one box solutions that are common place now in the form of AVRs. I mean it's a simple philosophy isn't it? Cabinets are designed to house certain sized pieces of equipment...and if one of them is as much as 153/4 inches/40cm tall then the cabinet will need to be customise/modified (not something that the average Mom & Pop is too comfortable with I don't think). So Cary release an 'all in two' box solution that fits neatly into all existing Home Theatre enclosures and 'boom' you just opened up your market to include all those folks that are discouraged by the new 'super sized' audio gear :D

Hi All,

The main advantage of doing a two piece solution was to remove a common source of potential sound distortion in the form of the video circuitry. It makes the design of the Cinema 11a much simplier and the fact that Cary have removed a lot of the bells and whistles out of the unit, means that the resources available are better quality. Is there any doubt why this would lead to this pre sounding better for music than most products on the market and at a much lower price point than products like Anthem.

Cary have had a working prototype for a while. While there might be a delay in the HDMI parts to get stock manufacturered, they have time to field test the prototype. This was done by engaging a third party proffessional ISF calibrator to test the product. So while I expect there may be some minor firmware upgrades in the first few months as with any product, it should be fairly solid straight out of the box. With the Cinema 11a however, the updates did not relate so much to perfomnace, but improvements to menus, access to additional features to make the product easier to use, etc. Cary where open to suggestions and quick to make improvements. Have a look at the AVSForum and you will find this is true.

Time will tell of course.

Hi Everyone,

For those interested in Audyssey, I have posted an interesting product analysis (Home Theatre - Audyssey XT processor thread) from a music producer/studio engineer in New Zealand, who has been auditioning the Audyssey for his studio on a trial basis. He has subsequently purchased the unit and allowed me to post his findings (which had been sent to me in a few emails). Really nice guy and worth a read.

Cary's design philosophy entered into my choice of a CDP. I could have spent $1100 US msrp for the Esoteric DV-50, but opted for the audio only SA-60. Of course, then I opted to expend $149 US for a Oppo 970 HDMI upscaling dvd player. With the Cary separate design, I will be opting to expend considerably more for the Cary video solution,

Separating the audio and video circuitry will definitely provide superior audio. The Anthem D2 (and the Integra 9.8) ran very hot due to the inclusion of the video processor chip in the same box. Many folks had to insert fans in their racks in order to make sure that the D2 did not overheat. Never mind the addition of multiple power supplies in one box. This should not be a problem with the Cinema 11. Hopefully, Cary will be as responsive as Anthem with the minor SW updates, as they prove to be necessary.

David, any word on the release of the Cinema 11A v2 SW release? I know that many AVSer's are waiting anxiously for this update.

Happy Thanksgiving to all from the States here. I will be picking up my Cinema 11 today and hope to get it and the balance of my surround system set up this evening before the family and friends arrive tomorrow at noon for the turkey. Thanks to all for your advice.

Hi Stan,

I have had version 2 for a while and have updated all the units in Australia. I noticed it wasn't updated on their site and informed them a few days ago. They said they will update it. You can either email Cary, me (contact me through my website www.wavetrain.com.au) or your local dealer. Its a small file and easy to email.

David,

Thanks for the offer. I will check my Cinema 11 when it arrives today. Hopefully, Cary shipped the new units with v. 2 installed. I will get back to you.

Hi Psycho:

Funny you mention SA. I picked up one case of Sam Adams and one case of Sam Adams Winter Ale. I promise not to open either until after the C11 is set up.

Yeah, sure :)

Hi Stan,

I am not at the office, so I can't check there, but I am not certain you can check. When you enter the setup menu you will be given the option for video or music settings. This only appears in V2, as does the ability to set the input type for each input (eg optical, coax, analog). Each input used to auto sense only. There was no direct setting. Should be pretty obvious what I am talking about.

Hope that helps. I can check when I am at the office. I have the latest manual at work as well, if for some reason yours is not up to date.

Have fun. Look forward to your post.
