Best Hdmi Set Top Box

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Panasonic HD box, but it only has a VGA out of it, so I want to upgrade to a HDMI model. I am leaning towards the Sony model. If someone could help out with some advise would be great. I want to buy this ASAP

Thanks in advance

Steve

Depends what features you want.

Your best bet is to go and have a looksy for yourself.

Personally I've got the Toppy 7000 and I think it's great, but it might not be your cup of tea.

I've tried the Sony and I think the Philips DTR7200 is better than the Sony in terms of PQ, menu look and feel, features. Just my 2c.

Picture quality is what I want and HDMI output

Presumaby you want Hi Def? Just a STB or a PVR? The latter gives you a lot more options but may be more problematica (according to some).

Need HD and don't need a PVR just a HD set top box with HDMI and all I want is good picture quality.

I've been told the Topfield ones are the best around, that true ?

Going for a Topfield TF7000HT Black

QUESTION: I am looking for an all in one unit, with HD tuner, HDD bay, etc etc - except I don't need DVD burner. I saw a cool looking Tvico one that can be netowrked etc. My question is - I am going to Japan tomorrow, and was thinking I could maybe get one there - if the voltage and warranty are not issues - and it has english menus - will the HD turner be compatible here? Is there anything else to be aware of? Thanks.

Hmm. Not sure if it is going to be compatable or not. Japan uses Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB) where as we use DVB-T. I would read into it a fair bit more before you did anything. It uses different encoding and stuff as well so I don't think it would work. But not fully sure.
