Guest Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 There are so many reports flying around the media circle at the moment that puts HD-DVD ahead of BR, thats its obvious (whether true or not) that its gotta be hurting Sorny. Their partners (Panny, Pioneer etc) must be pissed off with Sorny's approach to this. We said months ago that time will tell...and indeed it seems to be the case...
HoffY Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Personally i can't stand all these "reports". its just crap. Just like the reports on the next best display, storage medium, blah blah blah. Whatever. I dont care. how about a report when the damn thing is 1 week off hitting the shelves ffs. I'm leaning towards BD as its larger and i preffer that. Other then that both formats are identical in reality. Only problem i can really see is Sony's methods of strangulation. Putting it in a PS3 is fine. Thats nor forcing anything. They did it with the PS2 and DVD. And its a steller hit. I'd hate to see a DVD in the PS3. I like that line of thought. Lets take leaps forward and not baby side steps in technology. One thing they can stop doing is cutting their own throats with their restrictive nature.

Everybody, no talking about any products until they are 1 week from release (and that goes for anything, no SED, no PS4/XBOX3, no future blu-ray/HD-DVD players, no new amps which have new codecs or HDMI 1.3, etc, etc) . Apparently anything earlier than 1 week is "crap". These boards are to be immediately vacated and closed until a week before the launch of any new product at which time you will have a two week window - the week leading up to and the week after to post your reviews/comments.
rfa Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 OMG i'm glad i'm not the only one GT5 is now "slated" for an 2008 release. http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=11932 Given the 2 year delay of GT4 (over its original street date) i would be very surprised to see it released on time. However GTHD (basically GT4 running at 1080p) is a free download from christmas eve. GT was my reson for purchasing a PS. GT3 for a PS2 and as such no PS3 til GT5.

What you (and indeed all of us as consumers) have to decide is whether the extra capacity is worth the extra cost, the extra restrictions, technical immaturity and Sony's tendency towards proprietry formats. When you consider that, in real terms, these don't seem to produce any visible or audible improvements I'm inclined to think it's not.
HoffY Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 rfa, yes i keep up with GT news. I'm a bit disapointed with it delayed (but half expected it as you know hteir history). And on the good side it gives me moretime to finish GT4. I just got 85 Golds two weeks ago (didnt play it due to female relations and the lack of time) so it was good to get back into it and acheive that goal. next is many A-Spec points. And i'm logging them fully in excel just like my Lisence times and full replays. But i was really hopeing GTHD was going to come. It seem a possiblity it'd have the same GT4 content and i could have finished playing the game in 1080p. But thats out the window. Hell even having 1080i upscaled is out the window (but the damn NTSC versions of GT4 get 1080i and we dont!). Talk about ripped.

Two words (or is it 3 ?): Forza Motorsport 2 And if you want some GT like driving, then Project Gotham Racing 3. Don't get me wrong, I played GT2, GT3, and GT4 to death, but buying a console for one game just seems crazy, when there are alternatives that are at least as good, if not better (I'm trying to be nice here and not incite a flame ware ... neither GT5 or Forza 2 are out, so we can't really compare them, although there is more in game footage of Forza 2 available than for GT5). Andrew.

AndrewW Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061208/tc_afp/uscomputergames <- first sales figures are in... I am surprised that the 360 sold as many consoles as the Wii (launch month for Wii vs 13th? month for 360). Andrew.

Andrew. Not taking you the wrong way, it was GT that made me buy a PS, and from that my PS game collecion grew, mainly games that were released on both systems (Tony Hawk PS's 1-3 vs Dreamcast, xbrick, Wii etc and LEGO Star wars on all systems) and it was the exclusive game that made the descions easy. now am a GT (/ Sony?) fanboi... (www.granturismobynumbers.com - rfa) Its (i rekon) exclusive games that make the choices of what system is purchased if only one. A mate has a PS2 (GT), Xbrick 360 (Halo) & wii (Zelda) - but no "favourite game", just has the systems coz he likes games (and more $ than sense). Graphics are secondary. According to this logic Wii will win the "next gen battle". Have played the games mentioned, but they are not GT...
Skid_MacMarx Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 PS4 In 2010 Claims Sony. Major PS3 Upgrades In Between well they said PS3 and HD-DVD was to be released in the US in 2005... CM, I can't understand your above statement .. Blu-ray is a cucial part of PS3.. Sony will use the Blu-ray optical media for future PS3 HD releases... As with all electronics, the price will drop when the chinese sweatshops retool.. I actually played around with a X box for the first time, the other day, a Xbox 360.. I actually find the controllers very cheap and tacky.. it didn't have the same finesse as the PS
momaw Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I actually find the controllers very cheap and tacky.. it didn't have the same finesse as the PS really? I quite like the 360 controller. Of course the best controller so far has been the wavebird for gamecube.
AndrewW Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I actually played around with a X box for the first time, the other day, a Xbox 360.. I actually find the controllers very cheap and tacky.. it didn't have the same finesse as the PS Not looking for a fight here, I am genuinely interested in knowing what you thought was cheap and tacky about the controllers. IMHO, they are a thousand times better than the xbox controller and a million times better than the PS2 controller. I used to get cramps playing the PS2, and the xbox could get that way after a long session. The 360 controllers are so smooth and contoured that I never end up with sore hands, even after a 5 hour marathon. Andrew.
Skid_MacMarx Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 The 360 controllers are so smooth and contoured that I never end up with sore hands, even after a 5 hour marathon.Andrew. I must say I have not used either controller for those long periods of time so can not comment on the ergonomic nature to that extent.. But I find the PS2 controller more "intuitive" ie. the buttons where you'd expect them to be.. but the colours put me off.. and the controller I was using at the Myer didn't feel that well constructed.. maybe misused? I gather PS2 must have been released before X box.. because it appears the x box controller is a PS2 work around.. Microsoft did the same with a lot Apple interface features.. they would release a similar feature but built in a different way so not to pay royalities... whats the difference with the vibration and "rumble" modes? wouldn't this wear down the batteries pretty quick .. I noticed the PS3 has a rechaegable lithium battery PS3 owners will be able to charge and use their controllers via a supplied USB cable http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=20528 the xbox controller I was using looked like it had AAA batteries don't see this as some type of fight.. just my personal experience with the controllers
Guest Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 THe 360 controllers are far from tacky IMO, and I think youll find a lot of people agree. M$ went to great lengths to get the ergonomics right, and as an owner opf many consoels, I feel they have done a better job than most.
davep Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 each to their own about controllers. I like em, you dont, no sweat off either our ball-sacks. just regarding the batteries in the X360 controller last me probably about a month, however thats only with say.. 10 hours a week playtime. They take 2 x AA batteries. I use rechargables - easy. There is also a battery pack that can be purchased that allows you to USB charge your controllers also.
Skid_MacMarx Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 I feel they have done a better job than most. you have done a better job of what? as I said it comes to down personal choice although I could never see myself spending those amounts of time playing the thing.. we also only allow boys an hour on and an hour off as health experts suggest... the bright greeen and white looks a bit tacky to me.. but you don't buy the controller for the colour hey like I said the controller I used at Myer didn't feel that comfortable or robust.. what type of batteries does it take? whats the difference between rumble on xbox 360 and vibration mode on the PS2 controllers?
davep Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 *checks controller* .... green and white? must have been an aftermarket one. My 2 wireless ones are almost all white apart from a dark grey bit of trim at the front here

I'm sure it was an original Microsoft product... this explains things...
momaw Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 the one I was different to ones photographed .. aftermarket? I'm sure it was an original Microsoft product...this explains things... sounds like an el cheapo aftermarket, cause the official is a sweet bit of kit. stylish, well weighted (like a beautiful Katana), responisve as hell and melts into your hands. Damn I feel the need for some Gears of War now.
Skid_MacMarx Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 like a beautiful Katana I'm not a big fan of Sanyo http://www.sanyo.com/wireless/handsets/ind...?productID=1319
