Good stuff, a fast response.

Pity these sorts of things have to occur because of the thoughtless greed and criminal behaviour of the low lifes out there.

...and they think we might actually be tempted by their cr*pola!!

I have mine set to Immediate e-mail notification, but haven't received any for around 24 hours now ????

Austen.

Sorry Austen, it must be you. I'm still getting immediate notifications.

I apologise for offending you alebonau, it was from a hoax website many years ago - the images were not real.

I dont think it was the intention al, from bitey to advertise cruelty to animals.

Just a bit of black humour, I'm sure. Directed at a certain troll.

Woohoo! I'm way overdue for a promotion!

Just been chasing dvduser and jokn11 around the forums. I hit around 50 reports, and they got a fair few before I did, so there's probably in excess of 100 spam messages sent this arvo  ..........

134 I think the final count was, it's moderation time guys, for christs sake get some trusted soles on board, I'm not sure what power you think anyone is going to abuse but the scripted spam will kill this place long before anything else does.

Agreed!

I think that you are right Austen, a Nukemator 2000™ for all the regular, err..... responsible contributors.

hehe you guys and digitalj were one step ahead of me this time. Well done !

134 posts from the spammer to be exact.

a bit of cleanign up for timo and caniffe to do.

must be a bot of some sort too 134 posts in around 30mins !

pity we could not just freeze the guy from posting or somethign.

really got to be a better way of stoppign this stuff. at present forum members need to run around reportign and then canife/timo has the clean up afterwards.

canife/timo maybe consider the suggestion that not possible to post URL's in post for the first 5 days of joining or till get to 25-50(or set number of posts) you think is fair and agreeble to stamp out this issue ?

The cleanup on a IPB board is actually very easy, an admin just logs in to the management console, find the user, delete all posts, then delete user, it takes less than a minute

Just had a PM from Tim, 134 posts and member hit with his Nukemator 1500™

Austen.

Hi all,

Yes just deleted the 134 spam messages and the member responsible. As jok11n says it is a fairly straight forward process. Unfortunately I have had to now put a control on new members commencing their own topics. They can respond to topics but can't start new ones. This will be inconvenient for those legitimate new members but it is the price that has to be paid.

I am still holding off on appointing new mods at this stage as I am seeing if Caniff can use the Invision technology to limit the spammers.

Great to see isn't it!

Is only Coral Caniffe qualified for the more powerful Nukemator 2000™ series?

Perhaps something in the sign up that alerts new members that they won't be able to start threads (it might encourage people to search first which is not all bad) agree it's not ideal but the spam is getting worse. Keep in mind that the next step for these scripted spam attacks is that they will just methodically go through and post at the end of any existing thread, when they work this out expect the spamming to get much worse, the current system may be limited by the number of available categories in which to start a new thread, once they work out how to post at the end of any existing thread lookout

The holes in the Invision software are what let this happen in the first place, unfortunatley sometimes there is no substitute for moderation, surely there must be people that are capable, trustworthy, the FAQ maintainers, some of the zillion post club or whatever, we're talking about moderation here, not total world domination :D

As one of the older Farts here (by forum standards anyway - in RL Im only 31) I would be happy to act as a very, very part-time moderator.
