Member Policy Changes

Hi all,

To combat the spam problem, I have enabled a more restrictive set of permissions than previously. Before I lock this down to the level I want to, members will be auto promoted to the Member group as they post if they have > 10 posts in their history.

If you encounter problems, do let me know.

That said, to force your auto promotion - you are welcome to reply to this thread.

Further to this, the FAQ Maintainer group has been renamed Senior Member. All members who exceed a set post amount will be autopromoted to this group.

(Basically, avoids flood control and edit restrictions)

So the idea being that until someone has 10 posts they will have larger restrictions on posting and PM'ing? Like only 1 PM allowed per day?

On the FAQ Maintainer group would it make any sense to allow them to Delete Threads? With the specific instruction that only obvious SPAM threads should be deleted. Any other posts by legit members would still need to go through the normal REPORTing procedure to the mods. Mod response times are very good on this forum but it might help reduce the workload?

Pgdownload - essentially new members will need to participate before they can email and so forth from the forum.

At this stage there is no thought to providing mass moderation to anyone who goes over a certain postcount - this is beset with potential disaster.

When there is news about new moderators and/or moves to implement them, there will be advisories to this end.

Posting to see what I am

Mine says "New Member"........With 2000+ posts! Huh?

Edit: With that post I went to "Member". Thats better!

Great Idea - maybe now we won't be flooded with all the crap that has started lately

Posting to see what I am

As am I.. (though as a new fella here.. Im not so sure I'll get the "member" moniker)

Edit... Once again I am wrong.. but happy to be so.. wohoooo !

Hi all,

To combat the spam problem......

Good stuff, a fast response.

Pity these sorts of things have to occur because of the thoughtless greed and criminal behaviour of the low lifes out there.

good thinking caniffe

Good stuff.

Good call Caniffe! - a welcome change :P

Change is as good as cash in the hand I always say

I suppose it will settle in but I thing FAQ Maintainer was a better title for those of us doing that job.

Senior Member implies something else and is causing some confusion amongst the troops.

IMHO.

Im with Lyle... I think Senior Member is one thing and FAQ Maintainer quite different.. Like the difference between 'Troll Hunter" and "Admin" for example :-) actually thats probably not a good example at this point in time

Cheers,

Bitey

D'Oh..........

I'm a new member  .........

I wonder if this post will re-set the board ?

Austen.

EDIT: Yes it did :D

Lyle,

Not at all. FAQ Maintainer indicated to many people that these people were active in many threads. The reality is, out of the FAQ Maintainer - 50% were inactive, 30% were active in just one thread and the other 20% get as much sleep as I do.

boink!

I hope getting the right grouping brings back the larger PM storage. It kinda sucks when you have 50 more messages in your inbox than your storage allows

Yeah I too had to cull a substantial number of PM's before my mailbox would function again.

great idea.

just checking that I'm a member ...

Andrew.

Actually, you guys probably didn't need to purge your PM's ......................

I logged on last night and had 80 PMs in my folder, out of a maximum of 100.

Also my ststus was "New Member".

After making one post, things were back to normal.

On the brighter side, at least you've got to clean up you Inbox  !!

Austen.
