funkybits Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Howdy, I want to by a Digicrystal 9000 PVR, but they only come in silver and the rest of my hifi equipment etc is black. I had the same issue with a DVD burner I bought for my PC and I successfully painted it black with a can of black Vinyl spray paint and am thinking of doing the same thing to the PVR as the result was quite good. Has anyone attempted anything as nutty as this ? Cheers Funky

Timmy Downawell Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I spraypainted my silver DVD player black using a can of car spraypaint. It's between my black receiver and black centre speaker so looks 100% better. My (silver) Toppy is hidden out of view in a cupboard... I wouldn't really consider spraypainting something I had spent $1000 on.

Also an idea drop by to a local spray / body shop..see if they would spray it for you?? sometimes it may be worth the cost, even cheaper if they are already spraying something black etc.
thudabot Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 surely paint sprayed out of a container would find it's way in crevices/holes in the device? what about when it dries around the buttons? I think a pvr would have more buttons on it than your DVD drive i personally wouldn't even think of painting it just for something as trivial as colour matching my $0.02
funkybits Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 That's a good point re the warranty - didn't think of that.
thudabot Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 It would be logical to pull it apart first i would have though it would be logical not to do it at all
Timmy Downawell Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 For those wondering, yes I did remove the case frm my DVD player before spraypainting it. It would be foolish not to. As for voiding warranty, well it was a cheap player from Ebay. I voided my Toppy warranty by opening it to add a fan anyway, because it is in the cupboard.
betty boop Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 That's a good point re the warranty - didn't think of that. thats OK jsut spray it bright flouro pink, the repair tech if it ever goes faulty would never notice
