Kia quoted me $2,895 to supply and fit a new alternator to my Sorento. It's only got a faulty $2 diode in the alternator's diode bridge but they don't overhaul them, must buy a whole new unit. And $2,000 for a new turbo actuator. It's ridiculous. And the gas struts that hold up the bonnet don't. And the electric boot has a mind of it's own. And almost $500 in diagnostic fees. All eating into my HiFi purchasing power.

Haha.., Brodric! Perhaps, ceasing international travel might allow you to invest more in your passion for audio acquisition.

I'm going back to Shanghai next month for a few days, and I'm trying to arrange a tour of the Esoteric factory in Tokyo for late July. So make sure your M7 delivery does not interfere with my schedule!

I can't win a trick. The electrician was here today doing some work and when he turned the mains power back on my Pakedge MS-2424 managed network switch frizzed itself. And I think it also upset my Halcro MC-70. That was an expensive day out. It might be best if I keep my bad karma away from the Chanh lair for the time being.

Ouch! I wonder how that happened. It appears to be a surge. Were they connected, and was the power button turning on while the main RCD was turned on?

The MS-2424 was connected to the power point when the mains was turned back on by the electrician. He did some re-wiring of the meter box. MS-2424 doesn't have a power button. It just plugs into the power point and on/off is controlled by the power point switch. When the power was restored I heard the switch cooling fans start spinning at top speed, which is normal during the start-up process, but they just kept spinning and the switch wouldn't boot and come on-line. And the hard reset button isn't restarting the switch. That switch is worth almost 5 grand. I've asked Ambertech if parts are available. I suspect not. These things are just thrown away and replaced under warranty with a new one. Out of warranty and you're on the hook for a new one.

And the MC70 which is plugged into the same power point is also on the blink. When it's in standby it's turning itself off after about two minutes. If you turn it on from standby during those two minutes it will stay on. HRAS is not detecting any faults.

To ensure the safety of my HiFi gears, I have developed a habit of disconnecting all power cables from my devices whenever a storm approaches, during an electrician’s visit, or during power outages.

I had a Pakedge P20 power distributor that could disconnect everything for me but that broke down about a year ago and was never replaced. So I lost that smart capacity to easily disconnect my stuff from mains power. I had a spare MS-2424 but I sold it. Bugger. When you lose 24 network ports it's a drama.

I'm gonna be doing the opposite from now on. If my stuff gets frizzed during an electrical storm it gets replaced new for old under my home and contents insurance. But today's misadventure is not covered by insurance because there was no electrical surge due to storm. There must be a storm to be insured for electrical surge damage.

Just checking in to see if your M3s are working well. I’m a bit worried about the tweeters, though.

The dm88 amps were unplugged when the electrician was here, so yeah the M3's are singing nicely tonight.

Embrace the risks that enhance your quality of life without compromise. Think of it like acquiring M7s—don’t wait until the hearing deficiencies impact your experience before making your move. Ultimately, they will merely serve as eye candy in the room. Seize the opportunity now! 😊

I once sneezed whilst drinking tea. It happened when I was sitting in front of my MacBook Air. A tiny little splash of tea landed on the keyboard and frizzed the logic board underneath it. Not economic to repair. Had to buy new computer. An expensive mistake. But not as expensive as frizzing my MS-2424 today.

Holy crap Brod, I'm feeling for you here. Popping tweeters due to incorrect sequence switch off, swiping across a cart cantilever and seeing the 90degree bend, all these things that sink our hearts for a while. oh well, there's far worse happens at sea as they say in Grimsby.

If you want to, I can have a look at it.

I am actually after 16 to 24 port switch and If it is that good, I might get one myself .

Was it the one like this one for US$200 shipped?:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/326538041452

It has rear ports which would be good in my garage rack. 😉

Yep, that's the one. Probably cheaper to buy a used unit like that and salvage it for parts than trying to get a new motherboard out of Pakedge. My big issue with Pakedge is you can only get product support as the original owner, and only from the dealer who sold the unit.

Sorry to hear @brodricj

Maybe a stupid question, have you tried a differnt power point for the MC70?

Halcro says the symptoms suggest a damaged 5V power supply.

I've just been informed my Esoteric Grandioso N1T is being built and should be leaving Japan sometime next week. So I might see it in Perth in two or three weeks. Maybe fortuitous timing with the arrival of M7. @AccMagi7s and I are going to do an unboxing video, maybe we can do M7 and N1T together. I think mine is the 2nd N1T to arrive in Australia, I don't know who the other owner is but I know there's one out there somewhere.

After unboxing, you may leave it here for extended periods while traveling. I will not charge you for audiophile-grade burn-in.

Nor for the extensive demonstrations of performance to many interested parties.
