Tequila is something I've always wanted to explore. 

Any recommendations for a good one to start with ?

What is available in Australia is somewhat limited, however Patron Gold and Platinum is very tasty as is the better Don Julio .

 

Ultimatley you get what you pay for and have seen no bargains.

 

Anejo gets age and oak treatment and is my preferred style.

 

It's definitely for sipping and enjoying.......

Avoid the worm, indication of a ploy for uni student wannabe's. Generally very ordinary tequila marketed for a tourist market.

The Espolon Reposado is part way to an anejo and while I don't drink it straight, when mixed with Cointreau it makes great Margueritas.
