Lebowski’s HIFI and matching carpet

I am a s-cker for hi-fi suites - the stack looks very nice indeed but if I recall correctly, Mr Lebowski always had a knack for good looking display of his gear (or perhaps we both have the same bad taste! :P )

thanks b4sound. Yes there is something about nice stacks : ). The sound is good but the room needs work, I will go with a 70's feel in keeping with my vintage gear.

Very nice La Scalas.. WLM are certainly sexy in both form and function, my end game are the Divas (lusting for more before I have even started!).

I was tempted to buy the Diva's with the active crossover module but even the La Scala's were more than I originally planned to spend. I knew after hearing the smaller Stella's that WLM had the kind of sound signature that I like best. In a few weeks I'll post my thoughts on the Stella's and the La Scala's.

What speakers do you have?

Heck YES! Your Sansui stack is looking great mate.

A nice SE-7 would finish it off nicely, but at its current height the stack is framed nicely by the speakers. Any taller and it would be out of proportion.

ahhh... a fellow Sansui fan knows. Yes, I've been looking for a SE-7. When are you picking up your Dad's 317? it's a little dusty but is going to come up mint.

We have three SE-7s. One of these may be surplus to requirements in future :P

I'm down in Victoria next weekend, and will be in south-eastern Melbourne for a while on Sunday afternoon to catch up with prana69. We might be able to rendezvous somewhere!

the WLM's are completely different. Not so up front and in your face like the VAF's and a big step up in refinement and overall musical presentation. The little Stella's are lightning fast with tight and tuneful bass, I preferred them over the i91's I auditioned. It's a bit early to comment to much on the La Scala's as they only have a handful of hours on them but they sound very open and have the same musicality as the Stella's. Both WLM models present instruments/vocals beautifully and I'm enjoying listening to some old favourites and hearing a lot more into the music. I listen to everything from Acoustic, Classical to Rock/ Blues, Folk and Pop.

Definitely keep them on your speaker list and if you ever get to Melbourne you're welcome to drop by for a listen.

Your system is coming together nicely lebowski good to see your money being well spent

enjoy your journey

thanks Mario. I am enjoying it more than ever

Nothing as of yet, unfortunately.. (well I do have some Jamo E800 that get me by).

Am looking at getting the Hoyt Bedford Type 2 in the upcoming months however, and will pair it with the Aries.

Hay, mate...I'm back and in awe of that AU-11000 you have picked up.

looks mint too :(

You need a 939 more than ever!

Love all the other kit too...:)

thanks datafone. The AU-11000 is a fine beast, I think I prefer the sound of it over the AU-717. It fleshes out a bit more mid range and top end detail and just seems to work a bit better in my system.

I hear you on the 939, it's on the radar. I passed up a 838 a few months ago as the timing wasn't good for me, I'd be very happy with either.

Holy refried bean & melted cheeseburger Batman , that's one heavyweight amp , great condition by the looks too , good pickup.

Terrific that you were able to audition both WLM models to assist in the decision making.

:eek:Ekk! another 838, they don't come up often either, well not over hear anyway.

Bloody things are all over the US and Canada

yerp, it's a biggun. PeteMac had a listen to it today on the La Scala's and described the sound as effortless. It has a truckload of power and certainly lets the speakers know exactly who's boss.

with the dollar so good, now's a good time to bring some of those rare Sansui's over here

Arrrrggg...now you have me thinking of how to raise cash!

I'm not sue if I could handle the stress of them not arriving in one piece, but some Sansui monoblocks?

Love to hear that AU-11000 of yours one day.

Absolutely! Thanks again for having me over for a listen. Your Sansuis are beasts and the La Scalas are brilliant. The imaging and sound stage was sublime.

I'm still having a chuckle regarding our realisation that we 'knew' each other via another non-audio internet forum many moons ago!

Man, that Sansui stack with rack handles really does look the goods. And to have the 11000 off to the side as well....

Congrats, you must be rapt. :)

it's a small world eh. I wonder if there are others on SNA that we both know from the same forum (sadly no longer).

I'm living the dream man : ) ...

when my wife is not nagging

  • 3 months later...

I had the pleasure of dropping in at Lebowski's man cave after work yesterday to have a listen to his new speakers.

Last time I was there, he still had the VAF DCX floor standers which were not suited for the lively small room with severe bass boom/room mode excitation. The new WLM La Scala certainly works a lot better in the small room and matched with that gorgeous Sansui AU-1100, the sound was refined, non fatiguing with a fulsome sounding bass that did not boom like it was. The detail is there but it does not stand out to distract and it sounded balanced to my ears with that whole day listenable quality. My kind of preference. And we mainly played some hi res music via his MacBook- JKeny Dac on the day. It was fun and thanks for the beer & finger food. You have done well with your choices. :)

Anyway a few pics for those vintage Sansui fans.:)
