  1. Hello SNA members. Yep, downsizing the system.. So headphones and amps are on the agenda!! So I went into Addicted To Audio, and great service. Thank you to the staff. After buzzing around on the forums, I narrowed down the amp and phones to The DT990, T90, and Grado RS2i. instead of tying myself in knots, the Woo WA6 I chose based on reviews.. It seemed to me to give the closest thing to what I liked. First off, DT990's, 600ohm version. Wow. Fed by my crappy seven year old Ipod, it was impressive. Certainly better then the GSP Solo Ultralinear/DT990 300ohms(?) I tested. So much body, detail and clarity. (Mind you it will be fed by my Rega P5/2M Bronze/Musical Surroundings Phenomena II Front End:)) Bjork's "Headphones" off "Post" was great.. Nice and deep, and a lot of texture around her vocals. John Spencer's "Identify" was nice and raw, his voice spitting into the mike:) Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" had effects shooting around the place. I love a bit of sonic fireworks:) So now I fed it some high res files (Don't ask me what player, what sampling rate.. I haven't got a clue. I'm a vinyl man:)) now even more clarity, and of course a less compressed sound. it's as if the sound had freed up a little more, a bigger stage was created. Okey Dokey, switched to the Grados. For about five minutes. No joke! Because a) they were bloody uncomfortable.. I must have strangely shaped ears or something... They're a beautiful looking device, granted, but when highs hit, there was a harshness. On the DT990's they go higher to my ears, but not as harsh. Why did I try the Grados? Well the DT's bass was a little loose, and I heard that the Grados had a nice punchy bass, which they did, at the expense of that harshness:( Disappointing:( I expected much, and maybe they weren't synergistic with that amp. I tried really, really hard not to spend extra, but I felt the urge to try the next tier up. Enter the T90's!! Why do I do this to myself?! This is good. Really good. The bass is PHENOMENAL. So much control, I can hear the midrange detail, feel the rhythm. I found extra detail on "Headphones" the bass felt more organic, and Bjork's voice soared, and the effects ping ponged beautifully. "Dark Side Of The Moon" was wider in the stage and deeper. Mr Spencer was now jumping like a lunatic:) Veruca Salt's "Fly" sounded so broody and went low, really, really low:) but with control, and none of the bloom of the DT990's. I think the phrase "expressive with control" which makes me smile! In fact, the DT990's reminded me of the RX2's I once had. Lovely sounding up top, but bugger all control in the bass. I'm actually thinking of getting some DT990s later as an alternative later. Because they're a lot of fun, but you can't have them all the time. Bit like dating Cameron Diaz.. I think she'd drive me mental after a couple of dates;) I like this headphone lark, great bang for your buck. I chose the T90's with Woo Wa6. The T90's are with me now. My shiny new single ended triode, point to point wired WA6 is on order and will probably arrive in 3 weeks. Poo. Santa, GET MOVING:( In amp/speaker terms, this, to me sounds like a $6000 combo. So a lot cheaper for maximum bang for your buck. Now I can spend more money improving my front end. Love to see what a Fosgate Signature phono pre-amp/Benz Wood/Gyrodec combo would sound like through the T90/WA6:) Or some Groovetracer mods on my Rega with a Benz Glider:) Thanks for reading my rant!
  2. Item: The stock power supply (solid state PSU) for WA7 Price Range: thinking of $150 but it's negotiable Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: I rencently got a second hand WA7 but it didn't come with the power supply. If you have upgraded your WA7's power supply and have a spare one, I'd be more than happy to buy it :-)
  3. Further information: Hi all, I’m selling my STAX SR009 + Woo WES (2nd Gen) amp combo as I no longer have the time to listen and am therefore looking to downgrade. What can I say, this setup has been a dream to listen to and I’m very reluctant to let it go. It’s been extremely well treated over the years and the headphones have been kept either in their wooden box or under their dust cover when not in use. There are a few very minor cosmetic scratches on the amplifier. No marks on the headphones whatsoever, they’re in pristine condition. The pads look the same as they did when new. The Woo WES was recently upgraded to the 2nd Gen for even better sound quality in September 2019 by shipping it to Woo Audio in the US: https://wooaudio.com/amplifiers/wes The tubes were also replaced at this time with a full set of brand new stock tubes provided by Woo and they have barely even been broken in. It comes with the headphones and amp (of course), Stax wooden stand, Stax 2.5m extension cable and spare tubes. The plastic tube guard on the WES amp is also included but I've never used it as I prefer the look of it off. Local pickup is an option, but I’m willing to post to anywhere in Australia as I still have the original packaging for the Woo amp to ensure it will be safe in transit. It’s quite heavy and would require a few boxes though so postage wouldn’t be cheap. Auditioning might not be the best idea given the COVID-19 circumstances. Feel free to message if you have any questions. Thanks, Tim Photos:

  10. Item: Woo Audio WA6 Headphone Amplifier (Silver) Location: Melbourne (South Yarra), Victoria Price: $650 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Upgraded to WA6 SE Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, PayPal (Gift), Bank Transfer Extra Info: Includes Original Box & Packaging Following my successful purchase of a WA6 SE from JimmyBoy, I no longer have use for my WA6. This amp is in excellent condition. I no longer have the receipt but the serial number (beginning 0114) indicates an early 2014 build. I have the original packaging and stock tubes (Chinese made 274B and Sylvania 6DR7 pair, however from memory they were pretty bad). I've got a pretty decent collection of tubes (rectifiers & drivers) that I'd sell with this amp. Rectifier Tubes (all tested with a B&K 747 Dynamic Mutual Conductance tube tester): Brimar 5Y3GT $20 (Tests low at 13/14 - min 24 but sounds excellent) Raytheon 5U4G $40 (Warm sounding, tests at 60/62 - min 15) GEC (Japan) 5U4G $60 (Warm sounding, tests at 70/79 - min 15) RCA 5R4GY $30 (Cool/solid state sounding, tests at 77/84 - min 30) Westinghouse (Canada) 5U4G $35 (Cooler sounding, tests at 65/73 - min 15) Mullard GZ32 (British) $95 (Slightly cooler but very detailed, have 1 testing at 70/72 and another at 72/74) Mullard GZ37 Thin Bottle (British) $85 (Warmer - didn't personally test this one, sourced from eBay stated at '80%') Driver Tubes: RCA 6DR7 Pair $30 RCA 6CY7 Pair $30 I didn't actually intend on listing that many tubes! I've got far less experience playing with drivers as I quickly settled in on my favourites (6FD7). If you have any questions, just ask.

  14. Further Information: Up for sale is my WA7 Fireflies Headphone Amp. (99% sure this is Generation 1) I used this to drive my Sennheiser HD800S pair. Stock tubes and original power supply is included. I have had it for about 3 years, but definitely light/moderate use as I do about 90% of my listening with speakers. Really great little amp. Those familiar with Woo Audio know you are buying products that are made like tanks and also are of very high quality. Audition is available (will need to bring own headphones) but I do not have any of the original boxes/documentation. As such would prefer to sell locally. Cheers
