  1. Hi all. This is a call out to the speaker gurus amongst you all. I rescued these today that were on their way to landfill. A mate of mine's father built them in the mid 60's I believe. They are absolute monsters. The internal dimensions are 450W x 250D x 850H (96L capacity). External they are 510W x 360D x 925H (all dimensions in mm) The speakers are as follows from smallest to biggest :- Coral 2H-25, 5-20kHz, 20w, 8 ohm 65mm diam; Coral 4H-38, 1-10 kHz, 20w, 8 ohm 100mm diam; Coral 8A-28B, 35w, 8 ohm 175mm diam; MSP Hi Flux Speaker, only has a number on it of 12UAC, 275mm diam. The front and backs of the cabinets are 40mm solid timber and the sides are 20mm. They are internally lined with what appears to be flooring underlay. I hooked them up this arvo and they don't sound half bad. Does anyone have any info on the quality of the speakers used and offer any advice as to potential internal wiring/cross over upgrades or changing out speakers etc, etc... I know absolutely bugger all about the internal bits and bobs of a speaker but I just couldn't see these things go to landfill. They are way too big for my house but I have a system in the shed that they will be perfect for. Look forward to any advice.
  2. Hi all, Strange day walking home today. Come across these two out for hard rubbish and thought, I'll bring them home for the cabinets alone (I'd estimate 20-30kgs each). Opened them up and found a pair of Coral 8F-60, full-range drivers. Don't know at this stage if they work, but I'm wondering does anyone has experience with them? When I have the time over the next few days, I'll hook them up to a cheap amp and see. Regards. - Chris
  3. I just posted (linked here) on an Amp and speakers I just picked up from the 70s. Could not see a lot on CORAL AUDIO CORPORATION speakers for this model on the web. I know they are fairly low-powered (35W) - and assume they were not high-end at the time. Does anyone know much about them? Either way, they have a great vintage appearance with the timber grille. Very cool. Cheers, Sheeds.
  4. Item: spherical speakers Price Range: $300-$600 Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: I am after some epsilon spheres- the old ones, not the little modern ones, or the round concrete speakers mad by michael in Canberra Please don't forget to report your post as FOUND when possible. 5. Further information: These are the genuine coral released beta8, imported from Japan. These also have a passive radiator at the bottom. Grills are very cool and reversible. Apology photos are actually upside down .. didnt realise until after pucs were taken (they were in storage). Fantastic with vintage Sansui 777 amplifier which has a nice thick bottom end. Welcome to the short ikea stands they are on as well. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  6. Further information: Purchased with flat-8 a couple of years ago and refurbished with good pair of second gen (35w instead of 16w) betas from Japan. These have stayed with me for longer than any other pair of speakers to date. Surprisingly good bass in these cabinets which weigh about 40kg. Also comes with custom made covers which i made sure had the period correct logo, made in silk with florescent edging and logo. I have other corals such as the onken style X-Viii (rare) and X-vii v2 as well as finally sourcing a pair of Kappa 80. on a side note i did also source a pair of new Beta8 (in box) which could go in here as well .. but they cost a bucket! 7. Item: richard Allen 8” cup range drivers Location: canberra Price: $160 Item Condition: excellent Reason for selling: no longer needed Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These are great Britsh full range speakers, very popular in Japan. They work very well in open baffles. I can post for $20. They are somewhere between 94.58db efficient so will work really well with SET amps and low powered chips amps. I found someone on audio karma who sold his Coral betas and keep these: "I like them so much that I am keeping them in the Coral cabinets, and am selling my Coral Beta 8 'sI like them so much that I am keeping them in the Coral cabinets, and am selling my Coral Beta 8 's". 8. Item: Coral 12SA-1 Kit Speakers Location: Perth WA Price: Free, perhaps the new owner could make a small donation to Stereonet. Item Condition: Vintage DIY kits, average condition for age, the tweeters are not working on one speaker although I do not know what the issue is. Reason for selling: Having a clear out and this is a project I am not interested in anymore. Payment Method: Free, pickup only. Extra Info: Time to pass these on to someone else. All the screws are in the coffee jar. This is a well known and popular vintage kit speaker. A few scratches, nicks and chips in the timber veneer but not a bad finish for vintage DIY. Well made and very sturdy, over 20kg each. The front baffles come off (screws) if you wanted to remount the drivers on a new baffle. I also have a download of the original manual. Pickup only thanks.
