  1. The January 2013 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This month we will have a vinyl based system comprised of Club member components. The turntable and amps will be provided by two members. The amps will be DIY integrated amps with 60-80 wpc. Another member is providing 3 phono-stages: the VTL Deluxe (MM, tubed), the Conrad Johnson Motif MC-7 and the Audio Alchemy VAC-in-the-box. These phono-stages will be pitted against each other in a shootout – we’ll have what will no doubt be an interesting exploration and discussion of the sonic merits of these different phonostages. The speakers will be the Code 5 speakers from Grover Notting. We’ve had the Code 5 speakers at the club before and they were very well received. We may have a member’s pair of Acoustic Research AR92 speakers instead – TBD at this time. The second half of the music sessions will be BYO. The phono-stage voted best in the first session will be used throughout our BYO session. Sources for the entire meeting will be vinyl. Sorry, no digital media this month. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite records. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. Members and Guests welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door. Venue: Epping Creative Centre Address: 26 Stanley St, Epping Doors open 1pm Meeting starts at 2pm Best regards, Tom Waters President Sydney Audio Club www.sydneyaudioclub.org.au tomwaters@sydneyaudioclub.org.au
  2. Sydney Audio Club and Grover Notting – in partnership for a great event On August 21st the Sydney Audio Club will partner with Grover Notting for an afternoon of educational talks and music demonstrations. Frank Hinton is the CEO of Grover Notting, a major designer and manufacturer of studio speakers and equipment and also the Australasia distributor for Merging Technologies of Switzerland. Frank will bring the Grover Notting Code 1.5s, Code 4s and Code 5s along with a system from their extended bandwidth ‘Mastering Series’ complete with companion ‘Power Plants’. The overall theme of the Grover Notting presentation will be ‘optimum linearity’. The main educator from Merging Technologies will bring a multi-channel NADAC and his presentation theme will be ‘high sample rate recording’. (NADAC website at http://nadac.merging.com/) Frank is also organizing 10-15 of Australasia’s leading audio engineers and producers who will participate at some level to give us some insight into entertainment production and where it’s heading. Guests welcome, of course! When: Sunday August 21st, from 1:00 PM through to 5:00 PM Venue: The Johnson Hall in the Crows Nest Centre (CNC) at 2 Ernest Place, Crows Nest. The hall has good acoustics, is 180 square metres and will comfortably seat 120+ people. The CNC is in a quiet area that is very close to neighbouring cafes and shops. Trains: 12-15 minute easy walk from the St Leonards train station. Parking: all day free parking on Sunday in a large adjoining car park Presented by: Sydney Audio Club - http://www.sydneyaudioclub.org.au/ Grover Notting - http://www.classicaudiodesigns.com.au/ Merging Technologies - http://www.merging.com/
