Further information: Up for consideration are a pair of Kef 4 way Transmission Line speakers, in the IMF TLS80 style feat B139, B110, T27 Coles 4001G. As the cliche goes, I never thought I’d sell these, and as their new owner leaves with them I shall wipe a moist tear from my eye with a handkerchief… These have been featuring in my main systems for the last couple of years after I fell in love with the bass drivers Kef B139 which lead me to concertos, which lead me to Baileys enclosures which lead me to these. My next step in my transmission line journey is to have a pair of custom TLS80mkii speakers built using the all original parts I’ve collected. In my other system I’ve started playing with low watt amps and full range speakers so I can’t justify keeping these guys. In order to get close to these speakers up for sale, you’d need to spend well over 2K plus wait for speakers like the IMF TLS80s which NEVER come up for sale in Aus (which is why I’ve had to cobble together parts over the years and have custom enclosures made). These speakers will reveal just about any frequency you could possibly wish for. The drivers are all in incredible condition. The B139 has some basic surface blemishes which are just some surface characteristics that sometimes happen as these are manufactured. The mids, tweeters and super tweeters are near mint. I had considered harvesting the parts from these but it would be a waste of an incredible pair of speakers. They seem to have been built in 1976, at least that is when their builder wrote some instructions on the bottom. More recently, they have been seriously upgraded with incredible custom crossovers built, upgraded from 3 to 4 way by an SNA member, a professional electronics person, based on the Cambridge R50 featuring the same drivers, the Kef B139, B110, T27 and Coles 4001G super tweeter added. New wiring was also installed at the time. The enclosures have some age appropriate blemishes and I’m some areas have what looks like an inconsistent coat of varnish. The enclosures are 890 H x 460 W x 390 D and feature banana plug inputs. They must be quite efficient as they sound great and loud using low watt to high watt speakers. They are large and heavy, so pick up is recommended although if you wish to have pack and send collect you can arrange that with them.
