I'm looking for a home-based but portable head-fi system ... very much entry-level stuff, with a view to future upgrades ...I've narrowed my targets but would really appreciate your opinion. Needs/wants To power Beyer DT770 250 Ohm cans Files (mainly ripped CDs) served from Linux (Ubuntu) laptop Amp and DAC (or just amp?) 3.5 mm line in USB or battery-powered -- it's for home use but also outside at home ... $200-$300 Option A -- Schiit Fulla 2 PRO -- should handle the Beyers, all-in-one solution, likes Linux (supposedly), can act as DAC only if future separate amp purchased, cheapest option CON -- some questions about build quality (but maybe only in early builds) Option B -- iFi nano iDSD (standard or Black Label) PRO -- should handle the Beyers, battery, positive reviews CON -- what happens when the inbuilt Li battery dies?, cost Option C -- O2 Amp + some stick DAC? PRO -- will definitely handle the Beyers, battery option CON -- need a separate DAC (extra cost ... and which one?) Yes, there are better/more expensive options (e.g. ifi micro iDSD) ... but if you were choosing from above, which if any of these setups would attract or repel you?

Aesthetically, its in good condition. The only major blemishes I can find are some very small 1mm chips on the right side of the silver aluminium casework, which were originally there when I received the unit. As a small aside, I've much preferred Schiit's steel casework over their aluminium casework as I've never received an aluminium chassis from them without some degree of chip damage. Coming with the unit is the original packing box for the amp, a pair of LISST tubes and a pair of Philips Miniwatt E88CC. The Miniwatt print on the tubes have rubbed off so I can't prove that they're actually Philips Miniwatts but I do have the original boxes for them. If you have any questions, shoot me a message. The preamp was brand new, the monoblocks were floor stock. This is a fully balanced system which includes a high quality headphone amplifier. The Meraks are hybrid technology (half way between class A/B and D, at leas this is my understanding) and are rated 200W in 8ohm and 400W in 4ohm. I purchased this system to drive my Magnepans 1.7, which it did beautifully. In fact, I found this system to be just as good in terms of SQ, control and refinement as the power amp that I owned previously (a 500W/950W Sanders Magtech in class A/B), but with the added advantage of a much smaller footprint (plus of course the fact that this system includes a great preamp and headphone amp). I have now sold the maggies and do not need that much power anymore. The Taurus Pre comes with remote and papers in original box, the Meraks boxes are missing but given the small size, contained weight and simple shape these can be packed up safely and cheaply at Pack and Send. Into 8ohms will deliver 40W continuously with 60W into 4ohms. Clean crisp sounding it has no character signature of its own just lets the music flow through. Robust power supply with over-size toroid and large heat sinks ensure bass is very extended and full bodied and will drive into difficult loads. Solid brass gold plated speaker binding posts and quality RCAs provide a firm grip to external equipment. Solid core copper hookup wire used throughout. A excellent main amp or for a second system. There is an onboard power filter\fuse arrangement and each power module has fusing for both power rails. The mains are also fused. The steel two tone enclosure is understated and has a profession finish. A steal at this price.
