  1. Wowsers... thank you so much for the insights, al! I'd noticed the same thing about the additional screen dimensions, but was thinking I could have the screen just ever so slightly in front of the Catalysts and drop down to just over the top of them. Brings the screen closer to me (your point on immersion still being understood and appreciated!), and gives the maximum fill for the limited space. Will definitely reach out to screentechnics if they are able to "tweak" borders. Tick one box - will contact screentechnics for my screen! EDIT - Just noticed the screen has a matt white or a grey option? Not sure if one or the other would be better? I'd read about black screens but not seen grey before! As for the distance to resolve 4k/1080p, I can easily spot the difference between 1080p material and 4k from 3.5m on our 65" oled, so suspect at 4.5m I'll still be pretty happy with somewhere above 1080p. Completely understand what you're talking about with the room treatments. Certain room treatments are going to be possible, others will push beyond WAF boundaries, unfortunately. Can probably do some subtle masking considering the closeness to the ceiling. Ceiling fan can go, in fact, it's sort of in the way, and I hate it - it's ugly. Can't move the couches, unfortunately - WAF. Don't mind looking up at the screen. We have incliners, so a quick angle tilt of the head rest and we're comfy. I'll look into options for blocking the light from the left side. At night that's going to be the main problem for me as that's the only source of light coming in. At the end of the day, the room has got some challenges that I can fully appreciate. It's never going to be a perfect home cinema, but have had such a great audio side for so long I figure it's worth spending a bit to get the video up to somewhere respectable as well! Again, thank you so much for your help. Will get reading on the JVC x5900. Does it need a specific mount as well? Or is there one you would recommend?
  2. Hi all, Former DTVForum member that's tried to stay away for the most part as I tend to drop coin when I start reading forums like this. Have had the audio side of my HT setup sorted for quite a while, once again thanks DTV / Mark Seaton, and would like to keep the dual-view option available with the Panasonic VT60 plasma for lite viewing and a projector for serious viewing. Room is nice and dark at night and can be made darker during the day with some minor window treatments. Way I'm looking at the image below is that thanks to the height of the Seaton Catalysts (ignore current configuration, one of them normally sits as Centre on top of tv unit), I can really only get an approximately 100inch motorised screen into this space, which is obviously still miles better than 65 inch. So looking for recommendations on a motorised screen and a projector with a total budget of $5-7k? I would prefer 4k as my eyes seem to be able to resolve a lot of detail, and I already have a reasonable amount of 4k material, and another room that's 4k enabled, but understand that at this price point I'm going to be dealing with a pixel shifter. Really appreciate any assistance you can provide on this! Cheers, milka
  3. Yes, thanks Mark! Nothing like spending more money... I believe my post back at the start of March indicated that I avoid this forum because I spend money everytime I come on here. So, for those interested, the Catalyst amp is repaired and just got the Fedex return shipping notification, so probably back in business on Monday. All up around 6 weeks, which I consider excellent given Mark's business model. I once had a voice coil in a Paradigm Monitor go and it took them 5 weeks to repair (and that was from somewhere that's 10 minutes drive from my house). The HPi+ as an upgrade is ABSOLUTELY terrifying. Cannot believe it actually has untapped potential through adding a slave unit. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to logout and delete my dtvforum bookmark (again).
  4. Hi all, I stay away from this forum now mostly as every time I've come here recently I've ended up buying something (last time it was the Marantz AV8801 group buy through Clef...). Having a bit of an unfortunate time at home with my pride and joy. Turned the home theatre setup on the other night and one of my 3 CAT12Cs started going absolutely bananas. Sounded like a motorbike / boat engine starting up in my living room. INCREDIBLY LOUD NOISE. Very quickly turned everything off, unplugged XLR from the offending Catalyst and turned everything back on again - same thing. Turned off, tried different PowerCon cable, same thing. Have posted on Seaton sound, and emailed Mark. Well aware he's a busy man, so haven't hassled him too much beyond that yet. Anyone experienced anything like this before? My limited googling hasn't turned up anything. Guessing non-active speakers don't get this particular problem, so it's proving a tiny bit difficult to find some info on. Now I'll just go look around at what everyone's been buying lately and then...
  5. Hey minty. I'd probably just go with a Plasma TV in a room that size, so height shouldn't be a problem. That said, the screen would still be getting towards the higher end of the spectrum. With a bit of fine tuning, I reckon I could get it all in only about 5-10cm higher than how it's currently setup, which would be ok (just) in a 2.4m high room.
  6. Thanks for the tips, all. Especially the one about the sub being central. I was sort of thinking that and I know that Mark says the Submersive is completely inert. Would it be a good idea to put the centre Catalyst on top of the Submersive? I'm thinking of then using the BIR to house my components. Don't have too many I use nowadays and don't need to see them, so a standard BIR should work for them. Obviously we have to "win" the house first before I have to worry about trying to make all this work. Another house came up with a 3x5m room - nearly getting there! Also, the bean bags are entirely optional. Frankly, even the missus is optional.
  7. Same as kc01. Nothing like saving money in these uncertain times. I don't even know what I'm having for dinner tonight - that's how uncertain things are.
  8. Oh for f*&ks sake. Every time I pop my head back on here it costs me money. Just posted a quick snippet in the HT design/construction section and was about to leave and suddenly I see this. Oh well, ~$1k is certainly less than the $4k I spent last time I was on here. How's everyone's Seaton gear running? Mine's a dream. Thanks again, Mark and Blade!
  9. Hi all! Haven't posted or been on in a while. Last time I had a look around on here, I was $4k lighter thanks to a Marantz AV8801. Great unit, and great price thanks to another DTV group buy... but I digress! Missus and me are shopping around for a bigger house at the moment, and have found one that we quite like, but there's probably not the best space in the open living plan area for all of my HT toys (they stupidly built in a fireplace - missus loves it). There IS however, a bedroom that's 3m wide, 4m deep, and I'm guessing the ceilings are 2.4m high. Is this too small for a 2-seater home theatre room with a bean bag or 2 for the occasional extra person? My primary concerns are about audio quality in that sort of room. I've read a little about good and bad room modes but honestly don't understand all of what I'm reading. Oh, the gear that'll be in the room will be a plasma, htpc, Marantz pre-pro and the speakers / sub are all Seaton Sound (CAT12cs and a single Submersive). Certainly only looking to do 5.1. Well aware that this sort of gear is going to be somewhat wasted in a small room, but I'm more concerned that I'll not get good audio. Greatly appreciate any advice from the minds on here. Trying to avoid going looking through the For Sale / Group Buy thread. Had a quick peek before and saw the Oppo 105 GB... must ignore! Cheers, milka
  10. Yes, I mentioned I'd been a part of previous Clef / DTV group buys and they were nice enough to offer me the $3999 price. Am about to leave work early and go and collect it!
  11. *sigh* I tend not to come here much anymore because it costs me too much money... Case in point, quick bit of reading this morning and suddenly I've ordered an AV8801 from Clef that I'll be picking up on Saturday. It was on the list of toys for the year, just didn't think I'd have one by Saturday. Thanks guys... milka Now all I need is the Oppo BDP-105.
  12. Hey there. Congrats on the sale! Just wondering what your AV stand is? Like the look of it! Was it $$$? Got a very solid look to it.
  13. Thanks for the link, Quark. Them's some very detailed links... err... gee... sort of a bit lost.
  14. G'day mate! Ended up calling them up and they said it was $658.21. Didn't think that was too unreasonable, so I paid it. Have been hitting F5 ever since waiting for that wonderful "On FedEx vehicle for delivery" line to show up. Could be an early Christmas! Cheers, milka
  15. My, how time flies! My CAT's are currently sitting at Fedex's depot in Derrimut, Victoria. I just received the notification that the "arrangement" for duties and taxes is required and that the Importer must agree to provide payment of duties and taxes. It's Christmas, you b@stards! Can anyone remember what it is that we don't have to pay given the FTA with the US and the fact that these speakers are Manufactured in the US? I'm sure there was some aspect of the gouging that could be deflected. Just don't want to call Fedex and pay an amount in excess of what I am actually required to pay.
  16. Gentlemen, I had the great pleasure to transact a wire transfer for 3 x Seaton Catalysts (in Black Oak) this morning. I'd like to thank Mark for his promptness in arranging the transaction for me at his end. Thanks to Blade for letting my have a listen to his fantastic setup a while back. I'd also like to thank the AUD for it's little rally back up above parity to around $1.05 (Westpac gave me 1.0147 - tightwads). Always nice to be paying less than the USD amount! Feeling a little bit poor right now, but extremely happy that I can finally tick one of the real long term items off of my shopping list. Cheers, milka
  17. Thanks Macca, and everyone else for your insights into this. I might wait a month just to see what's going to happen with it. If they're close, then a few more weeks ain't going to kill me. I hope. Hmm... what else to buy... I guess I can finally upgrade the TV this weekend.
  18. Yep, saw that in the for sale thread, but really want that "new car smell". I only purchase receivers once every 7 years or so, so a bit of a premium for brand spanking new is something I'm more than ok with. Thanks though!
  19. G'day all! Ain't been on for a while, I've been holidaying in the US and getting engaged. Some things take priority over home theatre, at least for a few weeks. Now I'm back and keen to start upgrading. Not going to pull the trigger on the Catalysts with the dollar heading down, but there's a space there for the D2V that I'll hopefully fill pretty quickly. I've had a brief chat with Phil and am pretty much ready to pull the trigger, but I'm not entirely sure what's going on the with HDMI 1.4 support. Does the new stock have it? If not, is it going to be an expensive hardware upgrade when it does get released? If it means waiting a month or 2 to get one with HDMI 1.4 out of the box, I might do that. Phil suggested I inquire of the bright sparks on here, as I'm sure you guys are better informed that I am at the moment. I'm still struggling to figure out this work stuff again. Cheers, milka

  23. Hi all! I'm selling my Logitech Squeezebox Classic / V3 (black) in perfect condition with original box, remote, etc. Upgraditis... what more do I need to say? Great product, here's some details for the un-initiated: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2090929,00.asp http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Squeezebox-...cp_ob_e_title_1 I'm in the Bayside area in Melbourne if you're interested in a pickup, or I will happily ship to anywhere in Australia at your cost. I will only post registered and insured though. Asking $130. If there's no bites by Wednesday, it's onto that evil ebay place. Happy to get pics to whoever's interested, but it looks just like every other Squeezebox! Cheers! milka
  24. Blade, As always, good sir, you are a true source of wisdom and your generosity with it knows no bounds. My thanks. Pretty incredible that 3 Catalysts can probably had for approx. AU$12K at the moment. When I was first looking at them, I was budgeting about $15-16K! Cheers, milka
  25. I was wondering where everyone had gone! The mysterious "Review of Products" forum.... I know the moderators do their job for the love of it, but I'm honestly finding myself coming here less and less with the ever-increasing compartmentalization (where's scrabble when you need it?) of these forums. When I started, it was the TV thread (6), and the Home Theatre thread (7). I used to just type 6 and 7 into firefox and I was done! Anyone else finding it a bit annoying? Onto more important matters, I've looked around and can't seem to find any concrete info on this. Does anyone know the shipping charge for 3 Catalysts to our fine land? I'm ok to figure out the customs/duties/gst combo on top of that. Cheers, milka
