  1. hi can any one tell me if it will do component as well??
  2. Hi id say definetly giv it a go, i got a bonus 10 dollarr gift card, which i did not havta return when i gave it back so all in all i made money on it! If your TV has a SCART , then this is must have option, as this can provide RGB mode, which is on par if not better than component
  3. Yep i agree ... you must atleast show some intent of research before posting a very ambigous question, and made reference to any threads that u did not understand. My 2 cents r up
  4. Hi I think i stated the question wrongly, what i wanted to know was .. if STB boxes remote code will be the same as thier Televisions. Cos my amp manual has only the television code. and i was wondering if some one had tried this on thier remotes and succeded. Thanks
  5. Hi guys, Just another topic .. to get all your opinions... I have a Yamaha Home Theatre .. with Amplifier.. and the Yamaha currently controls .. my VCR , TV , DVD player and the AMP iteself. Currently .. it can switch upto 2 Component inputs .. and 5 Composite inputs.. So all i have is all the video inputs going into the AMP and One Video out for the component and .. and 1 one for the Composite. So i can switch any input i like .. and control it from the Single remote. I recently purchased a Sansui STB .. but returned it as did not have component or S video. What id like to know is .. if there exists STB that can be controlled by standard TV remotes... so then i can use tht TV control code on AMP's remote and control it. Although STB and TV might have different codes .. just wondering if anyone has tried this with any sucess. id rather go for a branded one that can be controlled with my single remote... Any opinions are Valued .. and my apologies if i have written anything stupid above Cheers
  6. Hi as too model number sorry iam not exactly sure .. but if u need any help ascertaning if the one u have .. or have seen any where jus email me some of the specs and i shud be able to tell you.
  7. Well i have also heard tht sanui boxes were a rehash of Teac, but iam pretty sure this is a different model and that Teac might not have some thing similar. I.E RGB output via Scart and Digital via Coax. Still a decent box if you want to invest your money. As for the TCL 8313 .. yeah lots of different prices around. My local retravision offered one for 99 without discount. So will see what i can manage. Cheers
  8. Hi guys, So sorry about the useless state of this thread! i did not realize that my ISP had bombed out before my review could be posted. So without much ado .. here it is again. Finaly moving up to Digital telvision was a good decision.. Firstly some info bout the box. It is a Sansui SD settop box, purchased from myer for 89 dollars. Comes with 12 month warranty and 1 remote control , 1 Scart to rca cable, Digital out via COAX. To keep it simple going to differentiate the good and the bad the good 1.Excellent picture and Sound quality, No heating up issues as with other boxes. 2.Aspect ratio button on remote, with not much loss of picture even in Zoomed 4:3 mode 3. Very easy to set up and get going, Tunes automatically and picked all channels up first time. 4.Apparently Sansui has been purchased by the Coles Myer brand, so you can be asssured any issues will be fixed ASAP. The bad. 1. No Svidio or Component output. It has RGB mode enabled.. but needs a TV with a SCART input for that to happen. OR purchase a Expensive SCART to component Cable. 2. Dodgy remote .. wont work always ... some times needs some coaxing to get it going. 3. Overall the construction of the remote dissapoints. 4. Cant thing of ne hting else ... except sometime Teletext button does not work straight away.. really crap in this part. Overall .. a veyr good buy for 89 dollars i reckon. Posting this with the hope it may help some one My 2 cents back to this forum. Btw iam handing mine back tommorow .. as i need one with component output .. so maybe buy a topfield or something similar. Cheers
  9. Givin this a bump so tht some other members dont pose the same questions again
  10. Ah well alrite , i guess then not much point in upgrading to digital now .. cos my analogues picture is quite alrite and if the sound aint having not much improvement i mite as well save the dough up for 6 months onwards. Thanks to all who replied in this thread Cheers
  11. Wow now that is something no one has told me yet, are u sure cos my friend has a SD set box installed and his Amp is able to decode 5.1 ch surround. If so either he must be mistaken. But why would the SD box makers advertise that thier equipment can provide 5.1 sound via digital. Is it just for a future purpose? And could some one tell me what is dolby pro logic 11
  12. hi guys just seen two other options Sanyo tupdi - 99 bucks at Target and AWA - 99 at big W .. any of these known to have any issues? I think u meant that for me .. yes i realized tht i wont enjoy the quality oif digital until i have widescreen tv . The reason y i want digital is that i have a Awesome Sourround sound speaker system and thus want to be able to enjoy 5.1 channel sound . Analogue TV is just about decent .. but doesnt soudn that great on my Amp. So tats the reason. As for the PVR .. not to worried as i have a DVD recorder. Basically the only thing missing from my setup is a Wide Screen TV wich due to budget issues cannot come until 6 months. Hope this is clearer
  13. Alrite the reason iam going for the low end models is that i have 51cm TV, and thus i dont want to waste money on a HD set top box rite now. Maybe if this is really good and worthwhile experience i will upgrade in about 6 months. I need a S video Output for my TV, and audio digital out Optical for my Yamaha Amplifier , and a preferably( no worries if not possible now) Component video output for my DVD recorder. I would not like to spend 200 on this now as i mite upgrade later on , and these days most Hi definition Tv's are already being bundled with HD set top boxes( check out myers most recent catalogues). Thus i wanna play out with the cheap stuff before i decide for the hi tech ones. Currently i have a DVB tuner hooked onto my Computer to rip dvd's and it works a treat and cost me only 30 bucks on Ebay. so still sorta confused on what should i buy. Please Help and a big thanks to all who already replied in this thread
  14. Hi guys After reading up on all the discussions in these forums i have decided to move up to digital televisioon. My only question is which one to buy. While i know this is debated much , just wanna check in my options 1. soniq stb - price 79 at jb hifi - has S vidio and Digital optical out - but as seen on forums many issues 2. panasonic - TU-SZT105A - about 150 on ebay if iam lucky - havent heard much bout this 3. Teac - prices from 100 - 140 at tandy or dicksmith 4. Base - 79 at Kmart 5. Any other model tats in this range. Any opinion will be considered guys.. so fire away Thanks
