  1. Have a look on the TCL website .... or here is WA http://www.tclelectronics.com.au/retailer....tate=WA#results
  2. I must say that is what I would have presumed as well, ..... BUT this is what the importerd/distributors TCL in Melb have told me over the phone when discussing what was going to be the replacement. I think they are going out of their way to look after the customer. I just hope the LCD panel is good one for a sports nut like me who would undoubtedly prefer a HD plasma.
  3. Newbie here ,..... but have been reading TCL lcd comments. I have previously had a TCL 106cm SD plasma that I thought was fantastic , running a HTPC thru it . About 12 months ago I noticed green speckles on the screen that would disappear after about 15 min of warming up. At the time I spoke to TCL Aust and they informed me it was an over charging circuit board and would easily be fixed and cause no long term harm. So I let it slid until now and decided I needed to act before my 3 year warranty ran out in Nov 08..... Much to my surprise after my plasma was picked up and told it would be returned in a week + , I have now been told that TCL will not repair the unit and will replace it with a new LCD. I'm a plasma fan and my next plasma was going to be a 1080p something , probably a Panasonic . TCL initially was offering me a LCD 1366 x 768 mod , but after a phone call and a bit of forceful discussion it will be the 1080P LCD.... Being a plasma fan I'm only mildly enthused about this new panel, and time will see if we keep it. I have not seen this LCD operating in any retailers so far , but the new panel is ready to be picked up or delivered now, and I'm hoping the PQ is OK or good , or even great and can handle fast motion for sports. BUT I WANT TO SAY THIS FOR TCL ......... 3 year warranty and they are good for it . On top of which the new 1080p LCD will come with another full 3 year warranty. I bought the original TCL in Nov 2005 , with the replacement that will take the warranty out to 2011. TRY and get that from Panasonic or Samsung.....
  4. try not using 9HD .... ie 90 ..... go back to 9
  5. Currently the Onkyo HT-S670 can be had for $999 aud , and with that includes the SP-302 DVD player. So its Amp/5.1spk/DVD. My use of this would be 75-85% Home Theatre, FTA TV , ...the remainder music. Being 50+ I enjoy Rock , Blues , U2 ,Joni Mitchell and Pavarotti, and bit of cool lounge backround music, plus DIG radio. The collection of DVDs is all the usual movies, plus Music concert DVDs,U2, Queen ,Pearl Jam often enjoyed at a tad too loud. I guess this usage would be reflected within the choice of speakers.... All this is to be place in the general purpose lounge room ...... not a HT room. cheers
  6. Thanks Wilco and Thomfam ,...... Both of you have provided far more insight to these products than I have had to time to reseach, and actually living with the items on a day to day basis will often reveal a products true colours. I started looking at a cheaper Onkyo HT package .... HT-S670 and it appeared to be great value. But the more you look the more features you want. First came bigger speakers with more mid range and bass , followed by features like Upconversion and component switching. Plus wishing for HDMI upcon. I'm often driven into these decissions by price , thou I do lust after the big O. Thanks for your insight and help .... Hotshod
  7. How right you are , Yes I'm confused with the technology....... Up Conversion is what I meant , and would seem to be a worthwhile when running multiple AVs into a PDP , which never have enough inputs. I would REALY like to have an amp that would do upconverting to HDMI but at $1900 for the Yamaha , it's not going to happen. Back to the Yam 657 verses the Onkyo 603 ..... ????
  8. Hi All , I have narrowed my retail research down to 2 amps for a HT system. I have previously been a big fan of Onkyo , though I have only arrived at this position from listening to friends systems and no direct comparison. I have arrived at this level of component as I'm looking for a HT amp that will offer Component switching and upscaling . I think high on my wishlist would be a HDMI switch/upscale amp like the Yamaha RX-V1600 but this is not within budget. So I'm looking at the Yamaha RX-V657 or the Onkyo SR 603 . Are there any forum users here that can offer pluses or minuses on either of these items...???? Cheers
  9. If you get a HD stb with DVI ..... you'll get an infinitely better PQ running 720p than any other signal.... At least thats my experience ...... Next best is VGA at 576p .... Followed by Component .... HD at 720p is wonderful ..... plus you get to view HD channels
  10. This box appears to have good connectivity ..... DVI & VGA , plus the usual , But the picture output is limmitted to only 576p or 1080i... This maybe enough , but other HD boxes offer 720p .... which is the best DVI for my PDP.
  11. I'm using an Optima HD stb , model # DTRA10HDoo. This is obviously some rebadge STB that the Computer Manufacturer ,Optima has been importing , along with PDP panels and LCDs . I bought it cause it had nearly every possible video and audio output, and overall the PQ is reasonably good. It is mated up with a TCL Plasma SD , and I usually run it via DVI @ 720P ...... At this output, 90% of the time on various FTA channels , I will have a band of blanked out pixels running from top to botton on one side , about 6-10 pixs wide. SBS sometimes doesn't suffer from this , also some news broadcast don't........... it can be annoying.!!! I would like to hear any comments from other users of the Optima STB , and to compare settings.
  12. It just is NOT THAT SIMPLE ...... most cheap STB put out RGB ...... most PLamas accept Component , yes they look the same BUT THEY ARE NOT ....... A lot of tears and frustration will be shed trying to hookup an RGB to a Component Plasma If this info is late sorry ,I haven't been following this thread.... Cheers All built in speakers are CRAP compared to a Prologic2 decoder system.... If you run attached speakers your living under a rock ....... DVI compared to S-Video ..... 100% better Spend ya money and go for the best set up ..... don't dick around . If you haven't tried component fitting give the Plasma to someone who'll appreciate it ......... cause you never will on S-Video I can't believe dickheads spend $2k+ on a PDP and $11.50 on a **** cable .... Talk about a waste of space Head up bum ...... Many people in this thread are beyond help ....
  13. I can't work out what this discussion is on about ..... If you want bigger buy one... If you want 16:9 buy one If you want Plasma buy one If you can afford PDP buy one STOP WANKING ON ABOUT THIS AND THAT .AND A BUNCH OF USELESS CRAP..... GO TO SHOP AND WATCH FOR 15 MIN ....... YOU'LL NEVER REGRET IT
  14. I also have this Teac model DVB 300 and you can not rely on the component out ..... It only achieved its component out status with a firmware upgrade ...... Signal on a big screen breaks up ..... Other Teac models DVB 350 & 420 plus newer models have scart /component out ..... and they were designed from new to have component out
  15. Palsonic is $400 more expensive ...... 25% .... more expensive TCL ...With a 3 year warranty ., at no cost .... Get Real , or get a better grip
  16. TEAC or SONIQ...... Is the question really best buy ...??? You can argue it out between these two if you absolutely have to have built-in speakers ..... Personally I HATE built-in speakers...... any one you spends a couple of K on a PDP and then uses built-in speakers deserves to drive a Datsun 180B for the rest of their lives ,more over they would never be able to appreciate a PDP. Without doubt the best buy of any sub 2k pdp is the TCL... (with 3 years factory warranty ) End of story , no more discussion will be entered into ......
  17. Sydney 24.Nov ... Cheapest price I've seen ...today $1899 With a $300 petrol voucher .... $1599 with 3 year warranty .................. Lovely in black Great Deal
  18. Why wouldn't you consider the TCL .....largest manufacturer TVs in the world , Better everything ,price , chassis , look , PQ , warranty ... Check em out ..!!! Lovely in black
  19. Hardly Normal ....... Interest free may have ended this weekend ...... $1684 is kooool
  20. Latest model TCL $1684 18 months interest free , no deposit, 3 years warranty . Greg
  21. HUGE company ...... get on the web and track em down ...... Largest Importer of TVs to the USA Largest TV manufacturer in the World ...... 18 mil/per year Uses LG panel .... Gives you 3 year warranty..... Compares more than favourably with other sub $2k Plasmas..... Only decission is if you like it ..... Oh they sponsor Geelong ..... that could be a problem ...!!!!
  22. If you guys out there like the TEAC buy it , if you like the TCL buy it ....... Don't be too concerned about gen6 ,gen 7 ,gen 8 panels , you are basically looking in the budget end of the PDP market , and you may save $800-$1k on price compared to the latest and greatest ..... It would appear that at times you can get the latest bundled in a different sofware package , or different scaler , cheaper chassis ,or suffer with less connections ,but it can be a great PQ , built to a price ..... BUT obviously if it is representing last years latest and greatest , it was not totally crap then and it will not be totally crap now, .... perspective is what you need , otherwise you'll never be happy ,cause these things are going to keep getting better and if you wait till 2008 and buy at $800 ,...... well life too short for that , and you'll miss all sorts of stuff...... "Don't Look Back ".... As for MX .... you can almost feel the smoke coming out of his ears....... thats OK , he does that , nothing personal......we all luv his passion ....!!!! At the moment MX is in luv with the TEAC , and the rose coloured glasses are on, but thats OK each to his own..... I like the TCL , my choice , .... The TCL has a new panel ,( don't tell MX ) been out for a month or so,and if you didn't know you would be hard to tell the difference from the previous model ..... But us humans luv to have the latest stuff ... I went looking for the latest , found it , bought it and as far as I'm concerned , in the 3rd week of Nov 05 it is the best PDP value for money on the market..... Actually I only have to please one person ...ME. But at $1684 , 3years warranty , 18 months interest free,+free delivery ...... I'm happy.... Even more so when it arrives on Monday....! Cheers A quick edit ..... MX appears to know his stuff , I just try to be nice to him.....( the mantra is , repeat after me..... teac good, teac good, teac good ....soniq good ,soniq was good , teac good, teac good. ..... oops)
