  1. G'day guys , I purchased my Tw3500 for $2,400 6 weeks ago ,the advantage I could see at the time over waiting and purchasing the tw3600( which the sales rep told me was comming out in 2 weeks time), is Epson are offering a Free lamp worth $500 with every TW3500 and extended 18 months warranty over the 3 years that comes standard with the Tw 3500 (I'm pretty sure neither are offered on the TW3600). As for the extra contrast the Tw3600 offers over the Tw3500 in real world conditions ,I been told its not real unless you have a completely black room . Personally I couldn't go past the TW3500 it was to much of a bargain with the spare lamp.
  2. I don't know if i agree with your assumption about the top bar being lighter because of light reflection of a ceiling. In this picture the top half of the video picture is sky which will always lighten the top black bar and the bottom of the video is carpark which naturally has dark colours so the bottom bar will be(darker) blacker...The black bars change their black density continually through any video ,the comparison should be made on something we know as jet black in real life,I find a good comparison is the outer velvet frame on my fixed projector screen. If i get the black borders to match the velvet frame at some stage through a movie then my black levels are close to correct.
  3. G'day Valavien, Your right in wanting the most out of your projector .I have an old Infocus SP5000 projector I installed in my HT room back in 2004.I had cream coloured walls and ceiling for 3 and a half years. It wasn't till i read on a number of forums that white rooms are a reflective nightmare for projectors and i was loosing alot of video quality that i got up of my backside and finally repainted my HT room.. I repainted it in Flat washable vinyl paint from Taubmens ,Midnight blue(dark, close to black) on ceiling and Burma bluff (light ) brown on the walls.I also spray painted my white lowvoltage recess lights in my ceiling black. It was quiet unbelievable the improvementmade, it really brought out the contrast(blacks are blacker) and the colours lept of the screen. The next week after painting I purchased and installed a new Sony Blu-ray player BDPS550 ,now that shot the video and audio quality through the roof again. The bluray player upscaled my old dvd's to 1080i which is great for SD video quality ,but when putting on a new Bluray HD movie the audio 7.1 and video blows me away everytime in comparison. So in other words Paint it and Blu-ray it ,that brings the best out of the old projectors. mav'
  4. G'day, I was wondering if other people with beloved 3910's in OZ are having the same problems that I've just recently started having with my Denon universal player. Mine started acouple of weeks ago not reading some old favourite redbook cd's,I had to reload the cds three or four times before the 3910 recognized them. Now just in the last few days I've had trouble getting it to read any formate. So last night I was desperate and reset the player back to factory default settings. It seemed to help for the moment it recognized SACD's and DVD-A's again first try but took a few attemps to read CD's.When the player(3910) want read it just displays 00h 00m 00s .I even tried a DVD Disc laser cleaner in the machine that made no difference,It even took 4 attempts to read the disc cleaner. I was on the net last night also and came across this other forum "AVS forum" and it had a thread about it . This is found to be happening alround the globe. AVS forum Quote:-" Sounds like you are a victim of the dreaded transverse unit failure. This is a $300(USD)repair.The transverse unit is the laser assy basically. This failure is not strange at all unfortunately.many owners of the 29/39/5910 players have experienced this.Twice for me"....... all threads stated the same It just stops reading disc's more and more frequently untill it wont read at all. I'm very diappointed in Denon if this is the case and from the other forum all the faulty units are all breaking down around the same age 4 to 5 years .Mine I purchased back in xmas 2004. I love the sound quality of my Denon 3910, I have compared it to many univerasl players over the years and it always comes up trumps to my ear. Last year I purchased a Sony BDPS550 blu-ray player and both connected via analog out multichannels to my Sony ES amplifier multichannel inputs .The BD player is fantastic for BD movies and concerts but doesn't compare when playing redbook Cd's and can't play my library of SACD's and DVD-A's.So I need the Denon to keep working. My question has anyone out there in OZ had this repair done? Some of the other threads said you can order the part in yourself(transverse unit) and take it to a local tech guy for repair. Does anyone know where we send our Denon 3910 in Coffs Harbour to be repaired ?Is getting the part in first agood idea? Rick.
  5. It cost about $5.00 to try ,rather than have a laugh ,,try it ,if it doesn't work which i would be suprised, youv'e had fun trying,(life is about having fun)for just a few bucks .Inexpensive tweeks are what makes this hobby alot of fun . Funny how a number of years ago I suggested cabling making a huge difference as well as resonnace tunning and got the same comments in return ,"youv'e got to be joking". Now its acccepted by 99.99% of all audiophilests around the world as the norm. I especially like how if you don't tension the screws exactally the same you will through out your sound stage. Also how you can tame bright or forward tweeters. These guys in the States are more critical than my mates and myself .Don't bother with the torque screwdrivers because I priced them and they cost over $150 each, we found it wasn't really necessary ,if your tighten the screws to the same point by feel they work just fine . Is this actually a joke site?[/quote] No ! my neighbour spent spent a couple of thousand dollars buying their speaker cables just a few weeks ago to run his also new "Tallon" Fire bird speakers from the States. He tried the brass screws tweek in his last set of J.M.LAB Utopeia speakers which he thought worked, but after spending a lot of money on these new 35 thosand dollar speakers hes understandable abit hesitant. P.S .They made a difference to all my mates speakers 5 sets in total but remember they pushed my bass in my Accusound delta's over the edge.So my steel screws are back in them... We all had success with our HT and Music subys.
  6. G'day GAT474, After reading your post and the others Iron man is definitley on my list of Blu-ray discs to get .I'm patiently sitting around waitng for my Sony BDP S550 Bluray player to arrive preorderd and paid for already(I'm now told 5th of December release). Anyway my point ,there's a cheap tweek for your subs that will make the drivers react faster and help remove excess resonnance which might help your problem.I've done it to my three subwoolfers and so have may mates on all their subys.Simply replace the steel screws with brass that mount the drivers ,check out the video below:- http://www.virtualdynamics.ca/the-oddiophile-eps--1/ it's that simple and it realy helps your bass .I didn't use a torque screw driver like the guy in the videoclip but just tightened the screws by feel. My friends had success with the brass screws in their floor standers, where i did not.It made my speakers mid bass and lower bass dominant where their speakers where always top heavy ,before the tweek . P.S We all used cheap brass wood screws slot head only picked up from the local hardware.
  7. G'day edge, I suppose we all have different tastes when it comes to speaker finishes. Personally I prefer real timber or painted MDF but never have been overally raped in Veneer ,even so my Accusound Delta's are covered in it .IMHO Its a bit like a claytons finish ,not quite the real thing. My neighbour has just purchased a pair of "Talon" firebirds from the States ,these are the other extreme cost wise to Dream speakers I spoke of before, around $35,000 US a pair and their finished in 2 part Epoxy in 2 tones ,maroon and black .
  8. G'day , I'm pretty shore Allan Henning owner of Accusound took his cabinet speaker building off shore to Vietnam back in 2001 his componets /drivers and crossovers started coming out of china before that .I own Australian Built Accusound Delta 890's(2000 year model) ,great sounding speakers after Mundorf rebuilds on the crossovers ,rewiring with Tara labs speaker cabling,L-Pads on the drivers and alot of accoustic wool bats for dampning. As far as recovering speaker Enclosures with vinyl vinear ,I could never work out why B&W spoilt their great sounding speakers in such away, especialy seeing how the extra cost of high gloss 2 part expoxy finish is so cheap .Look at the cheap Ht speakers like Dream speakers comming out of the States in piano gloss black sold on Ebay. Personally my next upgrade in the future for the Accusounds will be repaint in piano gloss black from our local kitchen cabinet manufacturer . I've seen his work on speaker cabinets before and he does afantastic job. I just have to strip everything out of the cabinets and give him the 7 shells ,its just abit to much work at present .But it will happen in the future.
  9. I've read the previous posts I've also read reviews and promotions on the internet , And what I'm suppose to be scared or something because i've really got you started ....Idots like your self with half an idea or thought, believe what Joe Blow says up the street or posts on the net forums must be gospel ,,their "opinions" fool !! make your own!! Its a 750 dollar throw away TV for goodness sake aimed at lasting afew years at best. ... If you read my previous posts i explained that Staff at my wifes store had to wait and take a ticket like everyone else ,they weren't put a side , unless your now calling me a liar ,which is fine coming from someone like you ,which means.. ...let me think .... absolutelynothing. As for this last comment Quote:- Big W can always toss out a few bags of manure (or better still, give it to your wife as a token of appreciation). Give me your private info in a personal message (direct)and you can see in person what I do to people that insult my beautifull wife .... You can say what you like and insult me but you cross the line when you insult family, its Taboo,or arn't you brought up on the same Aussie ethical standards as every other aussie .Your probably a sad depressed little man ,thinking everyones out to get you ,wake up and smell the roses and get a life.
  10. Advertise a discontinued model.." its brand bloody new only just released ,do some research " Sorrry but it sounds like sour grapes because you couldn't get one ....LIMITED SUPPLY ,Show me a Big W item that has had those words in print on a brochure (bet you can't),I can't ever remember reading one, regardless though whether some Retail stores have that inprint our not in there advertising ,tell me what number is limited stock or a set amount 20 ,40, 200 ,400(bet you can't again),and with plasma t.v's the packaging is huge do you realise how much storage space 40 plasma t.v's take up in any warehouse area .. Big W is a Department store first and foremost that carries thousands of items in stock not an electronics budget store like Wow or Goodguys. I think it only smart marketing if people purchase other T.V's while in store ( good promotions), they have a choice .... The big word is choice not con and smart people do research on a product before purchasing so they don't get conned . I personally researched on the internet last weekend and found half a dozen sites reveiwing the Sanyo 42" plasma before deciding to buy it, and that's how I now it's a brand new product with new chip technology ,I accept its not 1080p and slightly lower rez .HD , so what ,I play 1080p through my HT Projector via bluray and I purchased exactly what i researched ....In the end ,if you don't want to buy don't,I would find it insulting to be told that after purchasing a 106 AWA plasma today from BigW I've been conned.
  11. The word is "Yes" they probably will have another sale soon for the 42" Sanyo plasma after todays success, and will try to alot more next time, they had no idea they would be so popular ....."No" staff were not allowed to have the T.V's put a side, they had to grab a token like everyone else at 8.31am after doors opened this morning, they just didn't stand in line. Only three on staff took tokens in my wifes store.
  12. Sorry you missed out ,it has its advantages being on staff, I don't know what consumer affairs would be able to do about only 40 plasma's being alocated to each store for sale ,,,,mmmm,,,what tell Big W they should have more available ???. As for a con to get people in store they sold out and I imagine the hundreds of people that got to the store at 8.30 am and purchased one would be taking them straight home and plugging them in, lucky them,,, " So Where's the con" if they false advertised or miss rep the product maybe but they were true to their word. I'm sure they will have another sale soon with todays success, better luck next time.
  13. Bait and switch , interesting !! I had my wife layby one this morning because shes a sub manager at our local Big W store....But the policy was not to have layby on this plasma T.V .(seems only staff had that privilege and not in every store) .....Yep the word is they sold out in every store in N.S.W by 10.30am ,even the display models went that were put out on display last night after hours . As for value for money you guys are "nuts" show me any other plasma 106cm wide screen T.V with built in high definition tuner for $750 bucks not 999 or 2,000 bucks just $750 .Thats why they sold out not "bait and switch" . The picture is absolutley incredible the units sleek and attractive who cares if it only lasts 2- 4 years .. ...For comparison My spare HT projector globe costs me 600 bucks, for another 150 bucks we have have a second T.V for the wifes Rompus room. Sorry some people missed out but that's life, I don't know whether they will be at this price again Recommended retail is 1,499 Here is another review ,interestingly it states the contrast ratio at new 30,000 to 1 Quote :-SANYO has launched of two new plasma televisions with built in HD digital tuners. The 81cm (32 inch) has a screen resolution of 852 x 480 and a high contrast ratio of 1,200:1, while the 106cm (42 inch) has a resolution of 1024x768 and contrast ratio of 30,000:1. Both models deliver a brightness at 550nits for the 81cm (32 inch) and 1,500nits for the 106cm (42 inch). Additionally, they offer a progressive scan function and three HDMI inputs. Extra features in both the PDP32XS8DA and PDP42XR8DA include exceptional stereo sound, teletext and an automatic sleep timer to automatically turn off the TV. For safety, there is also a parental control function so parents can enable access to specific channels only and filter out unsuitable content. The SANYO PDP32XS8DA ($A999) and PDP42XR8DA ($1,499) will be available in Big W stores across Australia http://www.digitalmedia.com.au/node/1074
  14. Lovelly looking cabinet and very impressive gear ,nice to see resonnance cones on your cabinets and gear, can't tell from the pics but are your two value amps on cones or some other form of resonnace tunning (decoupling or rigid coupling )if not have you thought about decoupling them so they wont influence each other. 15. The great part about choice in this free land of ours, is that every bodys entitled to speaking and giving their own opinion, but why people have to insult when giving them is beyond me . Personally I find it sad and insulting to be told that people who buy high quality P.C's have more money than sense (your insulting me and my mates )....Just because you couldn't hear the huge difference a good P.C not a UPS in your system could make, doesn't mean the rest of us can't....I built my PC in a black box because most HiFi systems are black and I think they look sexy...I built my own P.C because I couldn't afford a 1000 dollar price tag for the unit that I loved, so you could say I have more sense than money..... I spent 20 hours build time per unit and exactly $346.30 in parts per unit( as an Electricial contractor I charge out at $65 per hour),the first 2 Power Conditioners were for me the last 3 where for mates(5 P.C units in total) ...My two aussie mates test ran my own PC's before requesting for me to build theirs (amazingly they were skeptical untill they heard what a highend capacitor built PC can do).Personally spending a total of $1,731.50 for parts and charging my mates only $500 dollars each per PC including the one I sent to my American friend ,means that I fell short by about 200 bucks on recuperating all spent money ...But having said that ,I can right of part of the materials through my buisness and also have the advantage of buying the parts from my American contacts at trade...... So to conclude from my figures alone, its obvoius why, well built Company Brand PCs are so expensive to purchase ...... Also remember UPS's can't deliver the power supply / current draw backup on demand that a decent amplifier giving you decent headroom needs ,which is the main reason and theory of a PC, built with large high grade capacitors (filtering is an added bonus). The theory is sound and in practical use today not witchcraft. Mav'
  16. G'day secretsquirrel, First thought goes towards one of the top recievers on the market at present with all the latest bells and whistles the Sony STRDA5300ES ,check this review :- http://www.cnet.com.au/hometheatre/avreceivers/0,239035706,339285188,00.htm and http://www.sony.com.au/homecinema/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=23688 it has your multiroom needs under controll as well.:- Yet another strength of the DA5300ES is its multiroom flexibility. It supports both second and third zones. Zone 2 is supported by powered speaker terminals plus a component video output -- which means you can run a high-def source in a second zone. Zone 3 is limited to just standard stereo RCA-jack outputs, so you'll need a separate amp to make that work. If you want to ask questions about Sony amps check out the forum at www.agoraquest.com .The average cost of the STRDA5300ES seems to be around $2900 AUD . IMHO the two best multichannel reciever brands on the market are Sony and Yamaha who started DSP. Mainly because they have by far the best DSP Digital cinema sound (DCS)stages incorperated ... Then you have the ES (Elevated Standards) model line from Sony with their high quality build....Hard to beat. cheers mav'
  17. I also coudn't agree more about buying cheap Power conditoners from Bunnings that have cheap 50cent capacitors in them but in the end their a waste of time except for giving you a surge protection device in circiut ,the cheap caps will inhibit the sound system rather than let it breathe, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The capacitors in the better PC's generally are highend caps and are alot dearer, comparison of say $50dollars compareded to 50cents.The only way to distinguish the different quality used from the different manufactures PC's , apart from opening up and looking inside, which might cost you your warranty, is by listening to them. I have a $500 UPS for my HT projector and tried it on my audio system before installing it in the roof space for the PJ ,I found absoultley no inprovement to my sound quality at all ,if anything like the cheap P.C's it inhibited the sound stage and made it dull. Mav'
  18. Yif if you like Bose speakers go for it .That seems to be the underlining message on this post and its right ,it's what your ears like .I have a neighbour that has an excellent midrange frequency system and he loves it ,if you love Bose you obviously love highs and lower bass frequencies, so be it.... It's your money , your living room and your taste.
  19. G'day mark, Sound advice from 56oval listen before purchasing. Personally depending on where you live ,at the end of the supply lines or at the start near a substation will determine whether you need an Isolation transformer power conditioner or just a P.C (Power conditioner). For example If you hear alot of pops and clicks on your system or have alot of grey outs or blackouts , blow alot of light globes these are signs of poor quality supply voltage. The better HiFi shops will let you take a PC home and test it on your equipment(Don't risk buying one if they wont, go else where) .Most componets including PC's take 100hrs run in time so if you can find a friendly dealer who will let you borrow one for a week, then run your music on continual loop for 5 days and then do an A-B test.If your not happy with the sound as i previously stated on my earlier post or can't tell a difference, ask if they have another brand or model when you return the first one so you can have another test run. Mav'
  20. Dont forget guys the purpose of the power conditioner is not only to filter the crap out of the in comming supply but also to add as a surplus power supply backup with its continuall charge and discharge of its capacitors. These caps are in circiut for demanding current draws from your system particularily your amplifers when large lumps of bass are demanded. IMHO there are 2 main problem using Isolation transformers, that they emit EMI and will ultimatley need resonnance tunning ...To me it was just another device that wasn't really needed in my PC that would influence the end product of sound quality and possibly not in a good way. Mav'
  21. G'day proftournesol, No I havn't built anymore since 2006 when I built the last one for my mate in Coffs.I had a couple of enquires from other Aussie Agoraquest forum members but after telling them the costs ( around $300AUD for parts alone at the time)they declined....Interestingly the Australian dollar is 95cents to the USD compared to 75cents back then and would make the expensive capacitors from the USA slightly cheaper now... Also I didn't use isolation transformers in my PC only filtering and protection , the thought of surge protection was always an easy option to add if needed but not wanted with my mates current housing surge protection devices already installed by me..... Mav'
  22. G'day Cable Connoisser and mark660, Good advice from C.Connossier My favourite saying " I'm a true believer in hearing is believing" My advice for people testing power conditoners is let your ears distinguish the difference between them and let me tell you it's not always price indicated. I found some power conditioners have a habit of killing the soundstage and others can remove distortion and bring the sound stage alive, only you can tell ,reviewing different models and brands in your system... I speak from the experience of A-B testing other brands and then decided to build my own a couple of years back ...I'm fortunate today in that I have two of my own in my system and sold another three in total( which paid for the material cost to build all 5 of them) ,,,,one to mate in the United States and 2 to two different mates here in OZ .....I call them the quiet achievers, you don't know there, but remove them and you'll miss them...LOL... . If you want a read a review of my mate's MAV 3.1 PC in the States that I sent him (MyKy112727 half way down the forum page):- http://agoraquest.com/viewtopic.php?topic=26227&forum=65&start=35&select_page_number=4 Mav'
  23. When i first started my setup in my new Audio/HTroom I couldn't listen to music over 75db (measured with a digital db meter) with out booming bass and distortion. Room accoustic treatment and many different tweeks including resonnance tunning later( 5 years in all),happy to say no distortion last measured with a fairly flat responce to 105db . I usually listen to music at around 55db and movies at 60 db .The most noticable difference compared to when I first started listening to my setup is that now if I have it loud at say around 90db I can speak to my wife without yelling . Mav'
  24. Voltaire ,I'm sorry for your loss of your father. I'm fortunate to still have my father and what more he still has good hearing .... Your father was obviously schooled as my father was(Dads 75).... I don't now how many times word for word I've heard the exact same saying when growing up. Interestingly when I first started building my audio/ HT room and system in Coffs my dad would travel up for a weekend to stay,he'd sit and would say absoultely nothing while listening to my music..I'd only get comments on his departure as "thanks for a nice weekend of wine and music son" . Finally after 6 years of tweeking and upgrades Dad finally made comment, in his own way...He brought his mate who plays double bass for a local Jazz band in Port Macquarie(dads next door neighbour) up for an over nighter to listen to my system and meet the family. His mate was full of praise straight of the bat and started air plucking his double bass along with Miles Davis SACD" Kind of Blue ".Dad finally stated "Miles would be proud of you son" it sounds fantastic... I had the same silent treatment growing up after a soccer match, if I played well dad would say well done son while driving home, if I didn't it would be a very quiet trip home . Mav'
