According to Bloomberg, the headphones are still in the early stages of development according to its anonymous sources. They also suggested the headphones could arrive on the market this year.

While Sonos hasn't confirmed or denied the plans when asked, the move would make sense to broaden the appeal of the brand which now has multiple competitors in the form of Denon HEOS, Bluesound, and Yamaha MusicCast.

The headphone market is crowded, but Sonos' household name would likely catapult the brand into this new space for the California-based brand.

The sources also suggested that Sonos could be aiming for the highly contested USD 300 price point, putting it up against the likes of Bowers & Wilkins, Bose and Sony.

The article goes on to suggest that Sonos is honing in on sound quality along with compatibility with music streaming platforms and drawing on its technology relationship with Apple Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

There's no mention of active noise cancelling, but we'd be surprised if that weren't one of the design briefs. It's mostly speculation at this stage so for now, 'watch this space'.
