Canton’s Reference Alpha Series Returns

With bold engineering and no compromise on design, Canton’s Reference Alpha loudspeakers are set to turn heads once again at High End Munich 2025.
First unveiled at High End Munich 2024, Canton’s Reference Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 loudspeakers marked a bold step forward for the German manufacturer. One year on, these ultra-high-end floorstanders are set to return to High End Munich 2025, with Canton officially confirming they will be on display in Rooms D109 and D110 at the MOC. It’s a move that reaffirms the brand’s ambitions at the very top of the audiophile market, combining cutting-edge engineering with sculptural design.

The Reference Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 build on the legacy of the Reference GS Limited Edition but are positioned as full-production flagship models. Both are 3-way bass reflex designs featuring Diamond Ceramised Composite (DCC) tweeter and midrange drivers, and BCT (Black Ceramic Tungsten) woofers — a proprietary cone material developed for maximum rigidity, internal damping, and dynamic response.

The larger Reference Alpha 1 features four 219mm BCT woofers, a 174mm DCC midrange, and a 25mm DCC tweeter. It offers a claimed frequency response of 18Hz to 40kHz, with 89dB sensitivity, 4-ohm impedance, and up to 950W peak power handling. Measuring 164 x 46 x 72 cm, it is finished in a Midnight Blue lacquer and internally braced to minimise cabinet coloration.

Its slightly smaller sibling, the Reference Alpha 2, maintains the same DCC midrange and tweeter arrangement but uses four 192mm woofers. It offers a frequency response from 19Hz to 40kHz, with 450W nominal and 820W peak power handling. The Alpha 2 is available in a Warm Grey lacquer and measures 142 x 41 x 66 cm.
Canton describes the new Reference Alpha models as:
A masterpiece developed for those who do not want to compromise on sound and designpromising a listening experience that touches you, fills spaces, and makes music experienced in all its depth and beauty.
With limited availability and pricing from €40,000 per pair, the Reference Alpha series remains among the most exclusive offerings in the high-end loudspeaker category.

Meanwhile, Australian distributor Indi Imports has confirmed that the Reference Alpha 2 will be available locally, priced at A$69,999. Canton’s decision to bring its most advanced model to Australian shores signals a serious commitment to competing in the upper echelons of the hi-fi landscape across multiple markets.
