Eichmann Products?

Featured Replies

I have a couple of Eichmann products, I was told by someone in the Audio Bussiness that they were terrible, the items I have are

1- Eichmann AC enhanceing cable.

2- Series 2 Interconnects

Would love to here what you guys think good or bad comments ;)

Oops hope I posted this in the right place.

What vested interest did the person who told you they were terribale have? Eichmann has gained a name for themselves worldwide, l have never heard their stuff and remain a fence sitter on the whole cable debate. l can see how a power cable could make a difference in the right situation however, but god knows how much the "AC enhancing cable" would cost.

Gav, before l would spend one cent on this stuff l would want a home demo without any strings attached. Thats the only way you will know if they work for you in your system

Cheers

I must agree I'm a cable cynic when it comes to spending uber dollars.

There are definite gains to be had upgrading from say, the cheap and nasty RCA leads that come with most gear, to a set costing up to $60, with gold plating, thicker cable, better shielding, etc. But the point of vastly diminishing returns kicks in from that point upwards.

Andrew

In my mind a power cable is a crock of ****.

Think about it logically...

power travels over exposed cables above or below the ground...

it is then transmitted through your house in ordinary electrical conduate.

how is using a super expensive lead going to improve any of this?

and how is the power/electricity really going to have any real bearing on the sound quality?

unless there is a major electrical problem in your house, a power cable is going to do SFA.

I had some Eichmann product on loan to test a while back, and I felt the build quality was appalling.

If you've had the opportunity to simply have a look at the quality and feel of the connectors, you'll get the idea.

As far as sound quality is concerned, there isn't much science to any cable, and they are very easy to engineer, it most certainly isn't rocket science as some manufactures would like us to believe.

Rick.

When I was going through the cable thing recently, I talked to quite a few people about the Eichmann stuff. There seems to be a general concensus that their interconnects are pretty poor, but their RCA connectors may be pretty good, and though they don't feel or look wonderful, they have a true engineering benefit. THis being point transmission to the RCA socket on your machine with a ferrous metal free path, rather than say, a gold plated nickel sleeve, which has the defecit of dubious conductivity with heightened capacitance and other minor mischeifs which may be significant with regard to component behaviour and low power signal transmission.

If you were interested in using Eichmann stuff, I'd use their cable ends on some other brand of reasonable and relatively inexpensive cable. Their cable pod for the back of amps and speakers is also quite good.

Magic power cords on the other hand? WHat, you think the electrons have a prejudice about ordinary cables? If so you're in trouble, as the limiting factor will be your house wiring and meter box; a magic cord for the last couple of feet isn't going to do anything (with the possible exception of people who use one of those $5000 balancing isolating power conditioners with individualy isolated outlets, though I seriously doubt it'd be detectable by any non-psychoacoustic means). The only other potential benefit to a magic power cord may be extreme diameter earth wires. We use extreme diameter earth wires on extremely sensitive machines, because high frequ garbage travels preferentially and better on the outside of an extreme diameter cable. I haven't yet seen one of these implemented on a retail magic power cable. For example, on our X-Ray diffraction spectrograph and interferometer, we use a power cable with normal active and neutral wires, but an earth of 1cm diameter copper in a teflon jacket. This thing is as stiff as a rod (since it's a rod) but gives us measureably lower noise on the machine and allows us to increase repeatable sensitivity to the PPB range for non masked elements. There are no forms of retail audio equipment that have this degree of sensitivity on earth.

Just to agree with all other comments. Their RCAs are OK I cannot say anything about other products. However, even RCAs are way overpriced for what they are offering.

Cable-wise - well I must admit that I found a subtle difference between good copper interconnects and silver ones (my hand-made products) and to add - minimalistic approach is an absolut must for cables.

In other words - if you do not need shielding do not use it, less metal the better. Also, silver can have a positive impact on details at high frequencies but some people do not like to hear such an open stage. They refer to copper cables as being soft - meaning - they are cutting a bit from the hi freq range. At the end of the day - it is all personal preferance.

With regards to the eichman RCAs(bullets).I use them and I believe the concept works.Although I do think for the cost they are a bit well?? a flimsey build. They seem very fragile, but this should not matter to much if you set up the system and leave it alone. On the other hand if you like to plug and unplug they could eventually fall to bits.

If you fall into continuously tinkering category, I would suggest WBT next gens.Like all WBT plugs they are very well engineered, whie at the same time running with the whole Eichmann concept.Unfortunately the catch is they come in at double the price,I think at about $220(copper) per set.

With regards to the sound improvement of either of these plugs,I personaly find it hard to tell any difference, maybe only the slightest amount.Maybe only because I want the improvement to be there.

Like the Emperors new clothes story.

I also agree with ajw056 and a few of the other comments.

I mean really who wants to buy the newest snake oil.
