Tasmanian Treats

Featured Replies

Off to tassie in Jan - what's good?

Who does the best whisky tasting?

Lark

Why not do all of them, they're generally quite cheap :)

We went to Nant which was OK, the girl who took us around was very friendly and knowledgeable but the tour was pretty brief, maybe 20-25min plus tasting at the end - the Tassie operations are obviously MUCH smaller than anything you'd find in Scotland. We didn't book, just rocked up and were the only ones there. Pretty sure we only paid $15 and got the 3 sample tasting thrown in, but we then both purchased a 50ml miniature to take with us for another $10ea.

Lark is a fair bit more expensive, $75 for basic tour, but that gets you 3hrs and travel between their bar in Hobart and the distillery.

Sullivans Cove do a $30 1hr tour+tasting and if you're going to Bruny Island then the Bruny Island House of Whisky would be well worth looking into - not really a distillery tour, but great local produce served alongside the largest collection of Tassie whiskies including limited and special releases.
