Guest Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I love it when people say "that metric crap makes no sense"
Green Wagon Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 Wheres me soddering iron and sodder. Hey, I just wanna say. I'M talking thank you. This is how I want it done. Why isn't this done yet. Don't give me excuses (even though it's their fault in the first place).. Why are they asking you, If they have a problem they can come to me, and I'll show them the door (My favorite from an ex boss, spot the stupid, I just sat there starring at him, fkwit. I still have a raft of emails from this gem of an oxygen thief trying unsuccessfully trying to blame work cover and an occupational therapist for his stupid) Did you know, that to save iron workers jobs in usa, some states would invent their own fastener size. Just different enough to not work with any other recognised tooling. That way, you had to buy their tools to work on xyz product. I might just go into this wallmart, buy a hand gun, and some ammo, then start killing people. Why, because right to bare arms and murder everyone.
Green Wagon Posted September 5, 2015 Author Posted September 5, 2015 Sup Bro, I'm chill. just saying is all. In other news, Owner picked up his TD124, he also found info saying to 'move' the pulley up on the motor shaft. Which he managed to do (I was to chicken for fear of damaging bearings) and this has cured its desire to throw the belt.. So win win for the owner. 2
soundfan Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Thanks Nigel for the repair job you did on my TD 125 in regards to the electronics. I was quite shocked (no pun intended) when I read this thread. Had no idea of the danger lurking within. And I can happily report that the bearing and pulley are fine now and the table doesn't throw belts when started at any speed. Turntable is back in use and sounding just dandy. 2
Green Wagon Posted September 5, 2015 Author Posted September 5, 2015 Maaaaaaaaaate. More than welcome. Yeah see thats the issue I had. Someone with idiot fingers had made it potentially lethal to the next unsuspecting owner and their family. I'm very glad you found the cure for the belt. Even happier its working properly again. Just out of curiosity, you said you had a tacho, have you checked the speeds to see if I did get them right ? Note to others, I set the TT as per factory service manual specs, I'm curious to see just how close that is to what an external modern test gear says 2

Spot on. And thanks to this thread and the comments about why the pulley was throwing belts, it made me peruse as many Thorens TD125 related threads to see what other solutions/possible causes to the problem. As I told you when I came to pick it up, I read about a guy who suggested using 2 spoons as fulcrums and carefully levering up the pulley. I did this when I got it home, and raised it about 4mm. No more thrown belts. Edited September 5, 2015 by soundfan 2
Green Wagon Posted September 5, 2015 Author Posted September 5, 2015 Awesome. Love it when it goes to plan Should've taken a pic, but I had the insides of the deck sitting on four bricks on my table so I could get at the adjustments while it was running with the platter etc in place. 1
