German= good/premium is the way they have marketed their products as for years. It is only partially true as anyone owning an Audi for example should know. As for Sennheisser they are good, but no better than many others and bordering on over hyped.

As with anything and everything do your due diligence prior to a purchase and don't be vacuumed up in marketing spin

Didn't Germans invent built-in obsolescence? VW wasn't it?

They could have won both WW if they placed the engines in front with a radiator, it would have given them the advantage if there troops didn't have frozen nuts......:P. :D

But that's good old reliable German Engineering.....

On the topic of VW/ Audi recalls it is interesting to look at the total number of Australian recalls for the period 2010-2015:

Audi. 10

BMW. 14

Mazda. 14

VW. 16

Ford. 28

Nissan. 30

M Benz. 38

Toyota. 47

Holden. 48

Audi/ VW dont look too bad on those numbers....

I think the Orpheus Electrostatic headphones and amp was their statement product.....never got to hear one though. It looked like a million dollars.

I don't have an issue with the marble. I do have an issue with the gimmicky motorised stuff and the potential complications they bring. Form over function IMO. Sure there's a lot of competition these days, but Sennheiser don't need to resort to this.

Also, how can you launch a statement amp and not discuss the technical side in greater depth? Have they released any more information yet?

$40 grand? Carrara marble? What a bunch of chiselers!

It's a statement product representing from Sennheiser within the realm "just cause we can" rather then a new technology push or change or breakthrough in engineering like the original Orpheus was.

Also it's going to be close to $60,000 AUD if it sells here. A nice deposit on a nice house in a blooming suburb, a good chunk for a complete house renovation with extra change, a new mid range luxury class sedan or family car or a 3 month trip around Europe and have enough to spare when you come back. Life decisions and choices.

Well it's official:

http://en-au.sennheiser.com/orpheus

I will doubt these will even sell in Australia. Preliminary prices are lower than what they will actually cost. They are priced at 50000 euro dollars, when a distributor in Australia takes hand in trying to sell these here, I'm assuming these will be priced around $60000-70000 AUD. If you have the space and no whiney neighbours you can buy build a speaker rig for lot less and it will still sound better. Obviously this product is aimed for rich people indulged in the marketing efforts from Sennheiser. It is not made for audiophiles.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I won Lotto.

But @ is right I reckon, they will be purchased by people "who can", with little regard to making good use of them.

Not sure that a $80000 device should come with this el cheapo mains switch. The digital connectors don't look too hot either...

That looks like the usual cheap mains lead to me as well. I might think it's OK to do that, but do the rest of you?
