My Quite Modest System.

Maaaan what a lovely looking system. So usable, all based covered. Sit down with a beer and spin a disk, sit down with the family and shake the house with a movie. Awesome work mate.

Got my new toy in place yesterday, but not before pulling the entire system apart, I needed to add some brackets underneath the rack as I had a few issues pulling it out and pushing it back in when I painted the wall last weekend.

I rearranged things when I put it back together as the Arcam is not in the system any more,  so now I'm just waiting on the extra 2 in ceilings to arrive and then maybe I'll stop fiddling for a while.......:cool::P

I'm about to run Audyssey but I do already notice a difference sonically between this and the Denon so it'll be interesting to play some LP's .

My very obliging son doing the hard work tonight...... :thumb: the pj was well bagged up to avoid any dust while we were working.

There are so many to choose from now, which one to watch first is my dilemma........ :D  :P

Just taking a look at the first post I'd say your system is far from modest. A CD player, TT, integrated amp and some speakers is modest. But it looks like all good gear. Enjoy.

I did a bit of reno on the weekend, finally got rid of the 80's archway and squared off the opening in anticipation of the fitting of a sliding barn door so that the lounge room can be completely closed off for movie watching/music listening.

Started with this on Friday morning (excuse the empty box on the floor in the background, anyone with cats will understand  ;))

By Friday afternoon, after a fair bit of swearing on my part, I got to this...........

And by lunchtime on Saturday I had it looking like this.................

After that it was just a case of punching the nail heads in and bogging up the holes, and now that I'm sure that I haven't missed any holes I can stain.

I have to say the demo part of the job was much more physically demanding than the reconstruction part and caused quite a few bruises.

Next project is the barn door, the guys at work are going to make the track and door hardware for me, the door itself is my job.

nice work kazz....

in our setup putting in a door in an opening like that was one of best things we did to make more projector friendly during the day and plus means we can be watching at pretty close to full tilt with kids fast asleep upstairs :D  definitely very effective putting in a door...though wasnt my idea in my case can blame curious for that !

looking forward to seeing results next step...

ps all this was lot easier for me though... since have a brother in law thats a builder so put one in without an issue... except he isn't a painter ...so while I have painted literally the whole house this one door still remains unpainted hehe ah the joys of renos

Nice work Kazz.

We have an arch very similar to that and I've been meaning to do something about it. You may inspire me.

Great job Kazz, I have a close mate who is a architect and it took him nearly 3 months to do something very similar, without a door.

Looks 1000% better than the arch

Are you a Tradey, Kazz ? Looking good there

:)

You are very talented, Kazz :thumb:

Thanks Al, yes just putting a door back in from the passage made a difference so a door across the larger opening should work wonders.  Haha sounds like a Curious idea, I don't know if you remember the house they had in Berwick but the lounge was a big open space that included the kitchen, they put heavy drapes that divided the area in half when they had a movie on and it work a treat.  :D

My next door neightbour is a handyman and he would've done it for me but I wanted to prove I could do it myself.  :P

Thanks all, it's something I've wanted to do for ages but was a little hesitant to tackle but it really isn't that hard.  :D

Spent the weekend staining the timber.

Now to make the sliding barn door.

Well I finally found the time to build the barn door and I've go to say the painting was the worst part of it,  I have no idea why I thought the V jointed boards were a good idea.  :emot-bang::D:P

Any way the door went up last weekend and this weekend just gone I made pelmets for the curtains in the lounge and dining rooms,  the one in the lounge will mean much better light control for daytime movie watching.  The only thing left to do was to run the Audyssey setup yet again now that I have the door and this coming weekend I'll get to see if the door makes a diference.  It's not soundproof by any means but should make a difference to the audio.

The last couple of months of last year and the first half of this year were a little trying, and not just because of COVID.

Around the middle of October, a few weeks after the September storms that left us without power, other than by generator, a neighbour's huge 30-40m pine tree uprooted itself and took out a large chunk of our house.  Where it wasn't crushed completely there were branches through places on most of the roof.

The end room that took most of the brunt was my son's room, the room he had been in just a few minutes before the tree hit, we were extremely lucky he wasn't in there when it hit.

The damage was substantial and made worse by the fact that the builder the insurance company sent out wouldn't even tarp the house as they decided it was too dangerous to get on the roof.

So for 2.5 months it sat there with no protection from the weather, the rain hit before I had a chance to get much of anything out so the amount of water damaged items, including my bedroom system and my PJ got wet the day following the tree removal.

Luckily the builders doing the rebuild were much more proactive and they had the house tarped and water safe the first day they stepped on site, three days before Christmas.

The actual rebuild took another 6 months and I finally moved back in in mid June.

Sad to hear Kazz - most important thing is everyone was OK.

Hope insurance has got it sorted.

Just saw your second post - good to see it's getting sorted out.

I've now pretty much gotten the inside of the house back in order and that includes putting my HT gear back in order with some new additions.

The PJ was replaced with the JVC N5, finally mounted last weekend.

I've also treated myself to a new set of speakers, so am now running Krix Neuphonix, Epicentrix and 4 x Acoustix.

Thanks Quark, yep all sorted, the insurance company were pretty good, after I ripped into them about the first builder.

I'm very happy to be home.

Now that I've sorted the inside I need to try to resurrect my garden, I lost 2 of my mature Japanese maples completely and another is very damaged but I'm waiting to see if it comes back in any sort of decent shape.

Hey Kazz, new room and gear looks great but what a stressful time you had getting there. I’m so glad for you that it’s finally all over and sorted.

You don’t really realise how much damage something like a tree can do until it happens. I’m also glad everyone got out safely.

Enjoy 👍

Thanks @Pops110 yep the important thing was definitely that everyone was safe, I certainly don't want to go through that ever again though,
