When ProAc released the original Tablette in 1979, it was a breakthrough product that challenged conventional wisdom about minispeaker performance. Designed by Stewart Tyler, the Tablette (iterations of the original continue to this day) was the consummate two-way overachiever, and set standards for transparency and soundstaging that are still emulated today. It catapulted the ProAc brand into high-end heaven. If memory serves, the Tablette knocked down the Rogers LS3/5a from its long-standing perch as the pre-eminent bookshelf speaker.
Reproducing a large soundstage is a difficult task for a small loudspeaker, because of lack of bass power due to the limitations of the cabinet size. After a year's intense R and D however, ProAc are confident in having significantly improved this area of performance with only marginal increments to the cabinets dimensions. Extra bass power and soundstage size comes from a new 5 inch mid-bass driver which utilizes a Kevlar cone designed by ProAc. This drive unit gives uncanny bass extension, and is loaded by one large, rear port. A new ProAc developed 20mm dome tweeter features a special material on the front plate to dissipate phase anomalies and cancellations. The drivers are seamlessly integrated via a high quality crossover network. As well as improved efficiency and power handling, the Tablette Anniversary produces a significantly larger soundstage. Shut your eyes and the classic Tablette, trademark ability to produce a large soundstage from such a small enclosure, is now taken to a much higher level.
The minute you fire up these marvels, you’ll be tossed back your armchair with hair slicked back by the air force of sound (a hyperbole, lol). Seriously, these dudes rock the room with full range epiphany that is incredibly disproportionate to their size. And yes, they produce real bass. Ok, they will slam but not viscerally, and on all other program material they have enough reach in the lower register to enjoy everything else!
