Owners & Discussion Threads

Featured Replies

As @Dolphy pointed out, lack of searching etc. might well lead to duplicate threads, especially if the wanted information is contained in a single long owner's thread?

Coming to a forum as a newcomer, I find separate threads give a better "quick" overview than long single threads with multiple subfork discussions. Another advantage would be that off-topic and further subforking can be avoided. Orientation within single but seriously subforked threads is pretty frustrating (and there's a few on SNA like that).

The fact that threads die, or peter out, is in the nature of forum softwares.

Imo SNA does a very good job of pinning key topics and allowing othe smaller threads to take their natural course.

  • I don't there is a stand out alternative to how it's being done now, other than lighter touch on merging product threads into brand threads. Thanks for feedback all.

Ultimately I don't mind which direction we go. Hey, the less admin stuff we need to do the better. I can say that I spend the best part of an hour each morning moving threads into their relevant sub-forums when they have been posted incorrectly. Perhaps we have too many sub-forums to start with and even they should be condensed more - upside, less subforums for people to check, downside - harder yet again to find specific information.

There are many ways of doing this and Facebook groups (for example) don't offer any features such as sub-forums, or even "threads" in the way forums do, but then the search function seems to be utilised more effectively over there.

@Marc and is it across the board or within specific sections that cause that hour of labour? It's too much time invested just for click and drag admin imo.

I can see a useful merger between Beginners & Purchase advice with General Hi-Fi because there appears some overlap and information spread across two major forum subsections.

Music, Musicians and Bands seems by far the busiest and to be working as intended.

Yes I do think that "Beginners and General" is due to be merged also.

It's probably important to still keep the Beginners reference though, as it has proven a welcoming section for newcomers to post in.

I vote we get rid of the owner threads seperate section and let the threads there intermingle with other threads.

can leave them called owners thread, folks reading that can see they are owners threads.

mods save yourselves all this work if merging threads. Just leave them be 🙂

if threads are on specific topics it’s also easier to find them

I don't disagree at all @betty boop

Well it did/does. And that is how we've found ourselves in a situation where some members have expressed quite deeply they don't like it.

Ok, I get it.

I will exit stage left.

Seems like it bothers you enough that there are many people whinging to you so why ask for opinions.?

Puzzled? Did I say something that could possibly have offended you?

I was agreeing with you.

I'm very much feeling like damned if I do, damned if I don't, around this place lately.

My apologies mate.

I got it wrong.

Honestly 👍

Could we have separate sub forums for the more popular manufacturers?  So instead of an ATC owners and discussion thread have an ATC owners and discussion subforum?
