darrelj Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Would a Marantz SR7500 be good to replace an onkyo tx nr838. I own the onkyo which is very much a modern day model compared to the Marantz, but I don’t hear any good quality sounds when using all channel stereo. Are there any users here who could tell me how good or bad these models are.
Guest Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 Marantz is one of several AVR brands that are more "musical"; the others are NAD, Arcam and Anthem. For some people, an AVR from those brands can deliver stereo which is good enough. However, if you are serious about stereo music, you should get a stereo integrated, which can share your main speakers. Best if you have a listen to determine whether a Marantz (or the other brands) can meet your stereo needs.
darrelj Posted October 10, 2022 Author Posted October 10, 2022 Yes I agree with you, listening is the best gauge and I will be doing that before I purchase. I already got another integrated amp -vintage Rotel RA 611, and I use that for music , 2 channel. However, I also have a 7.1 setup powered by the onkyo and I don’t want to put those speakers to waste. That’s why I am looking for a not so expensive Receiver. Thanks for your time.

A "not so expensive" AVR is likely to have lower power and cheaper components, especially on the analog side. It is more likely to deliver poorer stereo. Please do not fall for the marketing blurb about AVR having 24/192 DACs, pure direct etc. in the specs. As an alternative approach, and apologies for taking this OT, I have found that good room correction software makes a difference for stereo music on an AVR. So, if you do not want the latest HDMI etc, get a used NAD, Arcam or Anthem AVR. NAD and Arcam both have Dirac Live while Anthem has Anthem Room Correction (ARC). p/s have an Arcam AVR
darrelj Posted October 10, 2022 Author Posted October 10, 2022 (edited) What ARCAM model do you have? Edited October 10, 2022 by darrelj

darrelj Posted October 10, 2022 Author Posted October 10, 2022 That’s $5k - not something that I can afford, unfortunately

darrelj Posted October 10, 2022 Author Posted October 10, 2022 How are JVC or Nakamichi but both don’t have HDMI s

darrelj Posted October 10, 2022 Author Posted October 10, 2022 Listening to music is the need. As I said in an earlier post, I would like to use my 4 surround speakers and the 2 main speakers in the setup. I may sound a bit stupid - sorry. This is mainly for karaoke and similar parties as the music can be heard all over when compared to my alternate 2 channel setup that’s driven by the Rotel amp.
TheBlackDisc Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 (edited) Just throwing an option in. A budget way of doing it is a new/newish model that processes everything you want it to, and has pre-outs. Pick up an older flagship AVR (some of those massive denon flagships can be had for $500 - $1000) and use it as a power amp. Not perfect by any means, but it’s the only way I’m aware of to get $5-10k of power and processing for $1000 - $1500. Edited October 11, 2022 by TheBlackDisc 1
