Pro Control remote software

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We have Pro Control universal remote for our HT setup, recently our set top box needed replacing and the codes are different.... Contacted Pro Control to see if I could get the programming software and was told that due to the complexity (What ever!) only trained installers have this software. I call BS, its not about complexity its about protecting their market. We live out in the country so getting an approved programmer to come and change a couple of codes just isn't an option.

Will probably be better for me to replace the complete setup as I can't get the software to program this myself, any recommendations on good programable universal remotes?

Playing devils' advocate, when you bought the remote and, lets pretend you had the software to program it at the time (which is complicated UNLESS you do all the training) and you either stuffed it up or couldnt get your head around it, what would you do then? Something tells me you would either demand your money back or get it programmed by the people who sold it to you.

You wouldve been told ahead of time about the way these remote controls "work", Everything is wonderful, until it isnt...

Regarding other remotes that DONT have locked down/locked out software, apart from the discontinued Logitechs, there isnt really much out there, yet.

You could look at the new Sofabaton or (my preference) the YIO Remote Two.

Thanks @Hydrology

The system was in a house we purchased, they left all the HT setup intact. As you say everything is wonderful until it isn't! In this case one of the components needs to be replaced. Hadn't really thought about it till now, can't even change the radio station or TV startup presets...

At the end of the day its a pain!

I know it can be a pain but from experience with remotes of this nature, sometimes it is better to protect the customer from themselves! 😉

If you have tracked down the original installer (who will have the file), perhaps they will be understanding of the distance issue - perhaps you can possibly send them the STB remote and the Pro remote and they can program it at their end and send it back in an Express satchel? Worth asking.

Any joy in the end?

No joy, just using two remotes until I find a suitable universal remote.

Cheers and merry Christmas.
